On miserable wet Sunday mornings I like to go for a bit of a drive in the countryside. Normally the Nurburgring because I like trees. And bumps.
Today, because it was more miserable and wet than usual, I decided to "tape" these antics and stick them on the internerd for your viewing pleasure. Or so you can abuse me for taping videogames and sticking them on the net, one of the two.
Anyone wishing to download said media gets to choose one of two:
An "outside" view: http://hosted.zedkep.com/worlds_fastest_lawnmower.mov
An "inside" view: http://hosted.zedkep.com/inside.mov
Be warned that this is pretty much broadband only territory - 125Mb for the first, 160Mb for the second (quality's pretty good though). I suggest a right click on the URL and "Download Linked File" or whatever it says on your computer. Also (for video nerds) that the deinterlacing is kinda cack. It was the cheapest DV box in the shop ... bite me.
And, no, I can neither ride nor drive anywhere near this well in real life. Not that it's a particularly great example of driving (hence "world's fastest lawnmower"). Oh, and the spin at the end was definitely not on purpose :)

Meh, is only a game. What's interesting about Gran Turismo is that it acts as this *way* good mirror of your (ones) general mental state. I can drive better than this. I can walk away in disgust halfway through a lap having put it in the gravel yet a-fucking-gain as well. The hard part is that if you think too hard about it, you suck. If you relax, you don't. Fascinating.

GRID has stolen Gran Turismo from my racing-game lineup I am afraid.
I'll have to make some movies to add to the KB collection I suspect. :)

Heh, that's cheating. Them's real roads, real cars, and a real genuine nutcase.

If there is one track in the entire GT range I cannot get around in one piece...it is that one...
Really f**king annoying...
A bit of a mute point now as my playstation was stolen last week, with my memory card in it!!!
98% of GT4 completed...

All right, I'll bite...
Couple of events occurred recently that has had me searching youtube for videos of MV Agustas going really fast...
1. Saw a guy on TV who was trying, and mostly failing, to do 315km/h on a Kwaka
2. Found a place in Wellington that will lend you an MV for $200/day.
I'm pretty sure an MV is good for those sorts of speeds so if you were going to borrow such a bike for a day it would be irresponsible not to see how fast it can go especially if fame and fortune beckons.
But first I just wanted to confirm just how fast these bikes are. I'm pretty sure I saw a vid of some nutter doing 300+ on a F4 but now all I can find is soft cocks posting video game footage.
Just like screwing, doing it with your computer doesn't count.

An MV312 is supposed to do 312Km/hr. In practice (http://www.cliffhanger.org.nz/results/Sprints%20Fastest%20Flying%20Feb08.htm) they're good for 295 (with a Busa good for 313). So, yeah, you can do 300k+ on a bike.

Mr Plod would probably disagree. I also reckon you wouldn't want to hit anything much larger than a bumblebee.
especially if fame and fortune beckons.
Which it doesn't.

If you fuck up riding at 300k, even marginally, you're toast. If you fuck up riding the Nurburgring, even marginally, you're a flesh and bone milkshake in a convenient leather wrapper. Go look at some pictures of it - damn thing is like a tarmac rollercoaster spread across a surprisingly large proportion of Germany. With nasty curbs.
But if you'd like to provide some footage of a <8 minute lap of the Nurburgring on a Daytona 675 I'd be more than happy to have a gander. In the meanwhile I shall continue to clear hangovers with a half hour blat after breakfast.

What a coincidence. I was playing Forza 2 yesterday, testing my suped up Dodge Charger at the Nurburgring.
It's actually quite taxing trying to keep the car on the track for 8 minutes.

pffffftt

Even that would probably hurt quite a bit.

I'm not saying you shouldn't. Hey, I lost most of last weekend playing Crash Bandicoot Nitro Cart on my phone. What annoys me is these guys posting top speed videos to youtube as if it actually means anything.

Top speed in a video game? People put that on youtube? Bizarre. Even I can hold down the X button until the number stops going up.

Apparently it isn't that easy, or something...

I've taken a ZX10R/Ducati 999/MV Agusta 1000 F4 all to over 400kph on a game called Test Drive Unlimited.
Of course they were all 3rd stage modified so would do 315-320 in top gear on a really long straight. However a bug in the game allows you to do exceed this by a long shot, in first gear. Pretty funny, start the bike and rev the tits off of it for about 10sec, then holding the throttle open, put it in first then turn of the ignition. The bike will then sit on the rev limiter and continue to accelerate as if doing 0-100kph until you hit a bump/car/tree/house/curb and lose traction. Good fun :-)
