I searched and couldn't find this one posted yet (wouldn't be surprised if it is somewhere though), so here goes:

It looked like a fairly minor crash. Surprising how much smoke came off it and how hard it was for them to put out.

poor buger, it's bad enough that he had a highside, let alone having your bike burnt to a crisp. and see his helmet was on fire when he got up

gutted man... I can tell you exactly what happened... the tank slid across the tarmac and since its made of steel sparked, the tarmac grazed through the tank letting the petrol out and it all went downhill from there... poor bike wouldnt even wish that on a Gixer.

Unfortunately the right instincts but wrong technique with the extinguishers. Dry powder interrupts the fuel/O2/heat triangle at a chemical level. Dry powder works very well in a contained environment, so they were killing part of the fire, but as the fuel had spread out, and the track surface was also burning, as soon as the powder dissipated, the flames were back.
For a large spread out fire like that, they should have used a couple together to cover the whole thing in one hit, instead of using one after another. (or a truck mounted 75kg jobbie)
A wet foam extinguisher or three would have been ideal.
(just something for future track marshals to remember:yes:)
