I'm off work sick today with a cold (they sent me back home), Picked up some of that Simply Squeezed Orange Juice (Mmmmmm. Pulpy goodness).
There's a sticker on the bottle that states "5 days of Vitamin C in every litre". If I drink the whole 2L bottle (and get 10 days worth of Vitamin C), will it upset my guts? Or will I turn Orange?

Not really ... your body naturally desposes of extra Vitamn C (commonly called pissing it out) that it doesn't need ... that being said it pays not to be stupid either.

If you eat too many carrots (and I mean *alot* of carrots over a long period of time) you'll turn orange..
But I think it'd be really hard to overdose on vitamin C..

You can get an intravenous boost of Vitamin C and a few other vitamins suited to you... My family get them before winter comes around and it's great :)

The superficial answer is no.

Your reaction to high doses of Vit C is dependent on your overall physical condition and the state of your kidneys.
Beta Carotine turns you orange.

Bugger orange juice - Whisky is the elixir you seek
Beta Carotine turns you orange.
I had a couple of food allergy challenged babies. My son in particular had some developmental issues with his gut and could not easily digest a heap of things. He loved and tolerated well, carrots, kumera, pumpkin etc. Used to form the base of his diet for a while to be fair. I remember taking him to a Plunket open day and getting a heap of odd looks. A few days later I got a call from the nurse, they were worried about him having jaundice...LOL

Vitamin C is great, but your body will only take as much as it needs to. Your kidneys will simply filter out the excess. When you are sick, or challenged in your health your body needs more Vit C than normally, therefore it uses more. I would be more concerned about buying and swallowing suppliments to find the majority was being pissed against the wall (so to speak) when you are well.
Hope you feel better soon!

I can't have much Vitamin C because I have hemochromatosis, which means my body absorbs and stores too much Iron and Vitamin C helps the body to store that Iron.... so I'm sitting here thinking "Immmmmm, yumm, Simply Squeezed!!!" I used to love drinking that, PULLLLPPPPPPP!! haha, you lucky bugger!

I once read a story about a lady who was megadosing on vitamin C over a long period of time.
If I recall correctly, she was taking so much Vitamin C that it began to recrystalise in her urethra.
Which can't be much fun.

It could. Vitamin C is a toxin. Eating too much fruit or drinking too much orange juice could make you feel nauseous and give you diarrhoea. This is the body reacting to a mild case of toxic poisoning.
You probably won't get that by taking lots of vitamin C tablets, as in most cases with tablets, the body does not absorb the vitamins from them very easily. Even products with "added vitamin C" (a marketing ploy instead of saying preservative 202 Potassium sorbate) won't give you much vitamin C either as it is quite unstable. Just because they put it in - it doesn't mean you get it. Fresh fruit and vegetables are the best for getting vitamins.

Yes to much Vitamin Sea can be harmfull. You can drown.
Then there's the other vitamin See that if taken in the wrong place and the wrong time can cause fatal bulllet wounds and other nasties.

You probably won't get that by taking lots of vitamin C tables, as in most cases with tables, the body does not absorb the vitamins from them very easily. Even products with "added vitamin C" (a marketing ploy instead of saying preservative 202 Potassium sorbate) won't give you much vitamin C either as it is quite unstable. But on a serious note this man is right.
