I'm not arty farty at all. I wish I was. Have photoshop but by jeebus it's complicated. Likewise the GIMP. I've barely scratched the surface of them. Between irfanview and paint.net I can usually have a play. For animated gifs and stuff I've found xara x to be much quicker and simpler.

I am trying, badly, I admit to change this pic to make the subject look really awful. I dont want to be laughed at for my piss poor artistic abilities either, but can you guys make this look horrible for me? It may be my new avatar...who knows.

Been using Photoshop since V1.5a (1991). Still use it now.
Here's a commercial one done a while back utilising a lot of layers of effects and a number of displacement filters and layer calculations to produce realistic bubble effects, along with lots of layered vignetting speedlines.
Photoshop artists will understand the work that goes into something like this.
The other one is from a corporate annual report, design and photoshop work done at the same time. I blame long nights, good wine and bad drugs LOL.

If you get Photoshop, Mom, I suggest you get some lessons with your local tech... It's a bitch and a half to use. I'm only halfway adept myself, and we've had it in use in my art classes for two years running now.

I just isolate a single colour channel and then twiddle around with hue/lightness etc.

All imaging on my clubs website I did in photoshop (I also do the website), only exception being the main 3d logo which one of the member's friends CADed up or something.
Then again, none of it was all that hard to do.
