So the 'new one' is due out soon with a tad extra power and fancy suspension.
What do you reckon... get a 'standard' one now, or wait til the 'R' model comes out and buy one then?

Economics, save $ by buying a (new) run out model.
Pride and desire, $ don't matter, wait for the new model. John.

I think you would become pissed off with the suspension on the standard 675 triple IMHO.
Given the options on your poll I voted to wait for the up speced model, but in the real world I voted with my money and brought its big brother:devil2:

is the new one going to be more expensive? or are they going to run out the old one at a discount and set the new one at the same price?
1050 has the single swinger which just rocks

Ha! Don't ride one or it'll become a moot point.
I probably should've waited for the tarty one. But didn't. Oh well. The stock suspension seems pretty good to me, BTW.
Oh, and it's a fair chunk more power. The Daytona is 123hp, the Striple 107 according to this little book (that happens to be the owners manual). Of course, that'll be at the top of the rev range. The Striple drinks 91 too.

some information i came across
Things just got better for fans of Triumph’s Street Triple – the company has just announced a higher-spec R version for 2009. On the list of goodies are fully-adjustable 41mm USD forks, fully adjustable monoshock, and 308mm front disc brakes (Nissin) with radial-mount four-piston calipers.
The Street Triple R’s 675cc three-cylinder engine remains the same, producing 106 horsepower at 11700rpm. The bike gets new tapered aluminium handlebars from Magura, that are wider than before. According to Triumph, this, combined with a 5mm taller seat height makes for a better riding position.
The 2009 Street Triple R will be available in two colour schemes – matt graphite with orange graphics, and matt orange with grey graphics. Adding to the style quotient are black-anodised forks and two-tone black-and-graphite seats. The bike’s price and availability are yet to be announced.

Go ride one. They're hilarious. The R will be more expensive and both models will coexist.
If you cant live with the suspension, then wait for the R.
The suspension isn't bad, it's what you'd expect from a bike that's built to be a notch back. You need to go try one. The engine almost sells the whole thing.

Looking to go back to a 'middleweight' bike, enjoyed riding a couple 'tourer' types with wide bars - love the motard type of ride, but the FZ1 riding position was a nice compromise. I dont want a 1000cc as it's getting me in too much trouble. Street Triple just seems like the best bet all round from where i'm looking.

Getting a Street Triple is only hypothetical at the moment. I'll be getting an extra job soon, once I know whether im planning to go Air Force or Flying School. Will see from there whether it's viable to actually go out and make the purchase.

Heh, sounds a bit like me.. I'm waiting to hear an announcement with regards to pricing before I make my decision. And if it's going to take 6 months before the R model comes out, forget it, I'm going for an 08 Street Triple.

speaking of not being able to wait......my black street triple arrives next week! (or should do) I suspect the Street Triple R would cost no less than $17k, going on percentage increase on prices mentioned on American forums....
