Alright i have had enough i need to get this off my chest, the world is trying to stop me riding my bike !!!! . i found rust in my tank a while ago due to the nice painter blocking the drainage hole in my tank and water driping into it.
so i went down and spoke to an unamed bike shop and they said send it here this guy is the best! o.k i said and off it went i got it back and looked at it and said to them "there are holes in the welds" (he cut the bottom of the tank out and rebuilt the whole tank). they checked with him and it had been tested, "its fine" they said "his tanks never leak","hes the best" they said. after spending about a grand from start to finish on my tank (paint decals etc) i get it on my bike, go out boxing day and spend 4 hours stuck in levin on my way up yo the races because THE TANK LEAKED. so i rip the tank off and not only has the 4 hundred dollar repair fucked but the 4 hundred dollar paint job is also falling off (unrelated) so the tank is now getting rewelded and then it goes back to the panelbeater so he can fix his fuckup so its summer and my bike will probably stay parked up till winter.........JOY!!!!

Mate, did you get took or what ?
This is what you should of done.
Chucked a couple of hands full of gravel in it,shook the hell out of it,tipped the stones out, gone to Mt Eden Motorcycles an got them to put that tank lining shit in it.
If it was Mt Eden that give you the bum steer in the first place, disreguard this message.
But I doubt they would.

Don't the consumer whatzits act cover that?
After all they should have done a decent job and it should have been up to standard, not just last a few years...
I'd be fuming about this and looking to get a refund!

I can't believe how stupid some people are - a tank has a major repair, the welds are questioned, but a verbal she'll be right is accepted and a $400 paint job put on the tank - AND NO ONE BOTHERED TO FILL THE TANK AND TEST FOR LEAKS!!!! No,my caps lock is not stuck,I'm really shouting...it's basic dog fuck mate.

Yeah I think that should cover what's happened here...
They better be doing this work for free!

the bike shop has been good and got the guy who did the work to fix it, so everything is being done for free but people should do a job right the first time, i took the tank the and pressure tested it, it checked out fine. BUT if you pay a guy to do a job why is it up to me to check it properly?.
I'm an engineer by trade so i have a little knowledge to get me by and more and more im having to get jobs redone (like my tank) or do it myself because don't want the hassles of other people screwing it up. maybe this is a case of all the skills going overseas, are other people finding this or is it just me ?????????

If you leak tested it yourself and it check out,I'd say it was probably ok when they checked it too,in that case it's still their problem, but falls into ''shit happens''.I've repaired many fuel tanks and other fluid holding recepticles - you always test at the final stage, before painting or fitting.I've had tanks and sumps get hairline cracks around welds,it's like the metal has work hardened, and you just chase the cracks, never succeeding. If I ever repair a tank now it automaticly has a tank liner,it's the only way to be sure.

if you weld something properly then it is most likely to brake NEXT to the weld for the reason you just said the grain stucture gets courser around a weld and that is also where all the stress is.don't know if you wanted to know that but heh i'm bored and whats a tank liner ???????????? :eek5:

Tell em that she is NOT right and explain to then how they will be paying for the new paint job as the problem is due to their poor workmanship
