as some of you know i have , over this last week been all over the north Island, from the floods in welly, to the delivering of frosty's bike and onto the MD domain!
across to the east coast... (west is on the books, before the end of the school holidays!)
but in all the miles i have done in the van , on the bike,
What really amazed me was,
How badly some of the M/C riders where protected !!
Many MANY of the riders and pillions had NO gloves on, to me this is stupid! (even for me!!).
Now this is not in the middle of some town, but out in the middle of NO WHERE!!, you know they were all hooning!
One couple that over took me had
1. no gloves
2. no jacket
3. the passenger ( I presume it was a woman …) was wearing a DRESS!!!!
Now is it just me and the way I see the world , or are my concerns real?
Who rides with NO gloves?
And why??????

I never used to wear gloves, I found it difficult to use the clutch with the oversived gloves I have (still do, will get new ones soon). After my first crash I've allways worn gloves when I go for a ride no matter how short.

Yeah, I get to do a fair few miles around the country with my job and yep, you get to see all sorts. Protective gear has just been done on another thread recently so wont go there.
I guess with the hotter weather people dont want to put xtra gear on. I offered to take a mate for a ride the other day and he seriously wanted to hop on the back in shorts and jandels. Got a bit miffed when I insisted on at least jeans and shoes and decent jacket (knew he had one) ok we wernt going far but some of it was open rd.
But I must confess sometimes I go down to the dairy in shorts+sneakers - not far and I go at the spead of a fast push bike - and look what those guys wear! 'My Bad?

Well I can't ride my BICYCLE with no gloves! It just feels so wrong.
I can't comfortably pillion with no gloves. Occasionally I have had to and it made me very unhappy.
I'm learning to ride at the moment and I go up and down my mates driveway wearing, you guessed it.....gloves, helmet and jacket (albeit denim, but I don't go very fast.......).
I believe we need to take responsibility for ourselves when it comes to protective clothing, pillions included. It's not *driver* responsibility to make sure I wear a jacket/boots/gloves if I pillion but it's their perogative to say "No" if I don't.
As for the folks that abstain from protective gear, I hope it is an informed decision on their part and that they've thought through the consequences of having an off whilst wearing safety shorts and flip-flops.

We should all wear full proper riding apparel. Gloves would just be part of it. But from what I got taught at Nursing school, when one falls it is an involuntary action putting one's hands out to save one's fall. I for one would not be wanting to do it at 100km/hr+ :argh:

I always wear something suitable, and it has saved me from a broken arm and a broken leg now!
But today someone on a GPX (in shorts and T) with a pillion dressed the same wizzed past (clutchless shifting and all!) it really makes me wonder... really makes me wonder............(still wondering)..
I'll shutup.
Abeit, I dont wear goves much (only if I'm touring) simply becuase the wintergloves are unsuitable for around town (I get cramps with the clutch) and in essence I always pull over when I'm away from town and put them on, because I found the skin on the hands (esp knuckles(sp) rip/tear very easy, oh and bones in that area like to break and stop me riding :S)
end.
