Hi
can a 90 or 91 piston (single ring) be usen in a 89 kx125 (2 rings) are the pistons different in any other way?

As long as the height measurement of the piston skirt is the same there's no reason why it wouldn't be interchangeable. In 92 though they changed to a smaller bore with longer stroke.

well more likely, . . but what if the ring pegs in dif positions? or if there was a different gudgeon pin position (longer rod?) or diameter? or width inside the piston for a wider bearing?

Best bet would be to consult the Wiseco cattledog & see if they use the same listing for all those years, if they do then you should be right.

But it is one of those how the heck should we know? kind of questions.

Gudgeon pin is the same but have just had another look and found that the cylinders are different. Could mean different port timing so the pistons may well not be interchangeable.
