Can someone recommend a cheap(ish) motel somewhere near the Airport?
We don't fancy fighting the rush hour traffic to get there.
Doesn't have to be 5 star, but clean and good value.
Failing that, does someone in the area want to put up with the three of us for one night?

Also looking for somewhere to have farewell dinner and drinks. Again, not 5 star (we are fast running out of money) but good food at a reasonable price.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Try the closest I-site / info centre, they normally know whats what in the area. The closest is the hotel on the corner of ........ bugger can't remember now........Kirkpatrick street??? Something like that. Remember it is winter & they should have plenty of empty beds, negotiate hard with them. I run an accommodation business & ill be buggered if I will turn people away by sticking to my price, half of nothing is nothing in all that. Hope that helps :niceone:

Real good advice there, we got a lovely hotel for silly money with the I site doing the bargaining. Give them a price and see if they can get down to it, you'd be surprised this time o year.

A few that spring to mind:
Jetpark Hotel (http://www.jetinn.co.nz/)
Kiwi International Airport Hotel (http://www.kiwihotel.co.nz/airport.html)
Gateway Hotel (http://www.airportgatewayhotel.co.nz/)
Centra Auckland Airport Hotel (http://www.centra.co.nz/)
Ventura Inn & Suites Auckland Airport (http://www.venturainns.co.nz/Aklairport_intro.htm)

I recently stayed here for a month. Work paid so I don't know how pricey it is. It's pretty new and they have a free shuttle service. There's no restaurant but they offer a free breakfast.

This one is pretty good too, they also have a full restaurant & bar.

Let me know if I can be of help, I live down the road from the airport.

We stayed at Ventura Inn for the Friday night prior to our flight to Noumea early on Saturday just a few weeks ago. It was comfortable, especially the bed, is close to the airport, has a free shuttle and only cost $109 for the night and continental breakfast is free in the lounge area. We didn't bother with the breakfast because were going to eat at the Koru lounge anyway. I would go back to Ventura Inn so do recommend it.

The local fish and chips shop throw out a couple of boxes every night... If you ask nicely they might even throw some chip paper out to use as blankets.

Right...taken recommendation and booked at Ventura.
Now just gotta organise the hoi polloi to join us at a eaty/drinky place. The Toby Jug seems like a good candidate, but all suggestions welcome.

Room we got had two queensize beds. I like that - sleep in one, spread your suitcases out on the other one.

Did you negotiate senior citizens rates? Wanna borrow a mask?

I stayed at the Kiwi International Airport Hotel a while ago. It's large, older style, decent rooms, nothing flash, free shuttle, cheap. Think I paid $75 for two of us for one night.

45 minutes means nothing to us...we still measure things in kms.
Although I understand that 45 minutes in Auckland may just be to the next street over...

Mm, actual distance becomes meaningless in certain traffic conditions. The trip from the North Shore to the airport (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=Devonport,+Auckland,+New+Zealand&daddr=Auckland+International+Airport,+New+Zealand&mra=pe&mrcr=0&doflg=ptk&sll=-36.927327,174.880774&sspn=0.275001,0.601501&ie=UTF8&ll=-36.887859,174.815826&spn=0.275144,0.601501&z=11) is about 30km, but can take anywhere from 20 minutes to 3 hours, depending.

Yep, that much I know. Hence wanting somewhere real close to the big silver bird's nesting place.
