View Full Version : Help - I'm about to be raped by my SUZUKI dealer
MXNUT

I need to replace the headlight on my partners DR200SE because it is an american spec lens and dips away to the right instead of the left.
Warrant of fitness time - shit.
Went to suzuki dealer today and they wanted $350.00 + for the glass.
Have not been able to find any wreckers in top half of the north island that have any.
Questions ????
1.Does anyone know of any aftermarket headlights ( like the enduro units )
that are road legal
2.Any good overseas parts websites, not american though or lens will be the
same.
3.Any wreckers in lower north island or south island that may be able to help.
4.If no to all of the above where can i get KY JELLY in bulk so it wont
hurt as much.:sweatdrop

Can you just turn the headlight unit upside down? That will reverse the 'handed-ness'

is it the glass that makes it dip to the right or the reflector?
if its the reflector it will have to do with the blub mount.
Half an hour with a file may fix it?

Mount it upside down. Failing that take it to another WOF place who's not so anal. Hell, the headlight on that bike is hardly likely to blind anybody.
The dealer probably isn't raping you...it's suzuki's parts department.
For 300 bucks you'd be as well replacing the whole light unit with some aftermarket goody that will be way better (maybe twin lights?)
Maybe an adjuster?

It is an asymetric type headlight so has cut off pattern going to the right not the left as our laws require.Headlight pattern is obviously wrong when veiwed on beamsetter. Problem is with glass not reflector.

shit a new sealed beam is around $30ish(been a while since i bought one) a new light shouldn't cost more than $100.

Here's a thought. You didn't buy the bike from a Suzuki shop in NZ, or the headlight would be correct, so neither Suzuki NZ or your local dealer has made any profit from you shortcutting the 'normal' import/retail transaction, and now you want them to trip over themselves to fix your problem. Get a grip - and spend some of the money you (possibly) saved by buying a new and proper unit.

Have you checked out the/YOUR LOCAL wreckers...tell them want you want...they will find one / tell you how much, and when you can get it by.

I can almost guarantee that Repco, Partmaster, or Supercheap would have something that would fit - for about $30.

I solved my problem by going to another WoF place. Go to a motorcycle shop, or a garage, with actual mechanics instead of a VTNZ-style place with ex-taxi drivers who got kicked out because they couldn't drive. They'll likely not bother about the light but instead look at things like brakes and fork seals etc, useful safety things.

Where in the OP does he say he wants Suzuki to fix his problem?
Good on him for posting on here rather than forking out 350 when he can get something for a tenth of that price!
In case you havn't noticed, it is now the 'Norm' for a lot of people to buy thru the interwebby.

The SE model has a rectangular lens.
There are road-legal options in after-market enduro headlights, shop around.

Any aftermarket headlights will be OK (from a legal perspective, not necessarily from a fitting or performance point of view), as long as they have the appropriate "E" markings.

got owned.
Try going back to Suzuki NZ, they shouldn't be selling a warrantable bike that is never going to obtain one.

This has cropped up with the later GN250s (I think the early ones had old-style symmetrical headlights, so no problem), and Suzuki told the poor bastards to go get stuffed.

I'll join with the rest in saying get a grip yourself - $350 for a common farmbike headlight lens is just plain stupid, what it's being fitted to is irrelevant. An entire headlight for my KTM, including the 2 bulbs, is $120.
I can almost guarantee that Repco, Partmaster, or Supercheap would have something that would fit - for about $30.
I had a look around for a rectangular unit to fit the KTM but the above parts places didn't have anything small enough that would take an H4 bulb, not in the cheap common sizes anyway.
Cheers

+1 on that - under the consumers guarantee act an item has to be fit for purpose. If they are selling a bike that cannot be warranted then you have the right to chase them.
If the bike was not imported by them (meaning the defuncked dealer did it) then you are probably out of luck.

Seconded - these guys are awesome, took them 5 days to get part to me. Took the local wreckers 2 weeks to even get back to me.

Warrant is no problem - VIN'ing however is a bugger.
Went through this with my 1st Nordie.
