Boot Repair?

I bought a pair of Gaerne (sp?) motorbike boots about a year ago in wellington leather direct in town - have noticed theyve started leaking of late - both in the same place, jsut in the inside where the ball of the foot part meets the bike. seems it pulling apart a little bit.

Looks like it would be easy to fix with a little glue or something - anyone suggest the best thing to use thats gonna last and keep the water out?

If you still have the receipt, then investigate whether this is a warranty issue. If so, then go down that route before trying to repair, as once you've tried to glue them up any warranty will be voided.

My Dririder Nordics are crap, the sole is coming away a bit, and they leak very badly now - after about 10 mins rain I have a puddle in the toe of each boot. I complained to the distributer (but dumb me didn't keep the receipt) and they told me there is a waterproof "bootie" between the lining and the outer shell, and this should not fail (yeah right, hubbys pair leaks too).

If your boots are constructed in the same way, and the waterproof layer is coming apart, then gluing them up probably wont solve your wet foot problem.

Before I get new boots I'm going to look into getting a pair of waterproof "overboots" instead - this sort of thing http://www.forbesanddavies.co.nz/product.aspx?entryPK=2169 or http://www.motorcyclegear.co.nz/shopdisplayproducts.asp?Search=Yes&sppp=10 as although my boots are also coming apart a bit, I can glue them up and they aren't going to completely disintegrate any time soon.

As Mazz has said if you've got the receipt go back and see if there's a warranty period.

I've had a pair of full leather Gaerne boots (can'r remember the model) for a year or so and have had no problems. The mechanic I go to was impressed enough to buy a pair himself.

I have just left my Oxtars with the Gemmell's the cobbler to repair the zip. Pretty cheap.
Shoe repair services will have the best knowledge and products on hand and it will probably be quicker, better and cheaper just to take it to your nearest decent service.

Edsers in Upper Hutt managed to reconstruct for me boots that mosts shops would have given up on.

But if you're keen do do-it-yourself I've found Gorilla Glue (Mitre 10) will stick almost anything to anything else
