I just spent $165 to get my stator rewound and the frigen thing still doesn't charge properly so I'm after a regulator/rectifier.

My question is does it have to be a GN250 regulator or are there other bikes that have the same one?

Also what prices are acceptable for a used one?
Thanks
Dirk

Before you go out and spend all the money on the regulator/rectifier, have you checked your cabling?

I was having a trouble with rectifier/regulator and I was about to spend a fair bit of sum of money on regulator/rectifier, then I decided that my cabling looked pretty dodgy and replaced it with new cabling and it's working perfectly now. - When I tested the cabling with a multimeter they looked fine but it must have been old dodgy wiring.

Cost? - $10 bucks for electrical cable from Jaycar, $5 for solder and an hour or so of my time. - much cheaper than a new rectifier.

Argh, I know your pain Bass,

You could check the voltage across the batt' when she's running, as far as my nominal knowledge goes that will tell you if it's the reg/rec.

I got one for cost at 180ish cos Sportzone had a wee brain fart. Retail was going to be about 250. Perhaps from a wrecker, or if you or someone can rewire one then sweet. I'm not sure but I may have my old dead one you could mess about with.

PM me if you want it and I'll go hunting, I may have thrown it too though.

Good luck though, keep an eye on your water level in the batt too, mine was getting cooked.

It doesn´t have to be a GN one, but I reckon the GN ones are as good as any. The wreckers have heaps of them, so shouldn´t be a problem getting a cheapo. However I have used these guys (http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/erol.html) if you want new. Make sure everything is all connected, that all your earths are OK and your bettery is a goodun too.
