+1... just think how easy it is to remember those, compared to normal plates.

some bikes are just recognisable, be it the colour scheme or the bike.

Yellow for example, is an extremely forgettable colour of course...:D
I don't mind the idea of a perso plate on a bike, especially if it is quite clever. The downside is obviously the "stand out" aspect of it as everyone stated.
Piano hinges anyone?

Too much money and the loss of anonymity factor as well. I am always in my hi-viz suit, so I am always stealthy anyways... :niceone:
There are some great plates available. BIATCH, FUCKEM, spelled backwards are just a couple of fun ones. Check out the plates site and see what you can get away with. www.plates.co.nz :devil2:

Well I have already blown my anonymity with the makeover my bike has had! I have always liked personalised plates, I never really thought about them as an "oh no! Someone will recognise me!" factor...but I can see the point being made.
Actually I fully intend to get a plate... got a few ideas, its just a matter of $$'s now LOL

The plates site saying that something's available is no guarantee that a human won't veto it after you actually apply to register it (they do check these things); good luck getting any spelled-backwards swear words approved, etc.

I've thought about it, but if I had that sort of money to spend on the bike, I'd find a better use for it - like improvements to the front suspension, or a complete service.

Yes and no, really.
I used to have a red Hyosung and I would have liked to have got the plate RDDVL for it - Red Devil - which makes sense to me as I am also a big Manchester United fan. :devil2:
But I agree with the comments about the fact that you would make yourself less anonymous plus it would be better to spend the money on something else, e.g. a service, aftermarket pipe, etc etc.

But then again, some plates are only a one-off and can be an investment.
Once you've bought one, you have it for as long as you want it. Servicing / aftermarket goodies come and go and so do the bikes but the plate stays with you forever (unless you sell it).

All my bikes are sluts, so if you have a full licence and Star accept you on my policy, you'll be more than welcome. Edit: On occasion. No disappearing for three months with it, etc.
No puttering around, though. Betty needs her legs stretched properly.

TBH, Miss Mully likes the look of the pillion accomodation on it, so I'll have a chat with her and let you know.

Never went so far as to try to buy one, but I have spent a few moments looking to see what is available. Amazing what plates people do have. Saw one the other day and it said "crminl" or really close. Great way to alert the police. Just screams out "Stop me..." :shit:

Clever plates are cool, trying to work some of them out be a bit of fun. But as mentioned before, the price, holly hell what has happened to that over the last few years. When i bought my one and only P Plate for preveous business they wer like 300 bucks and that was with a message, coloured borders and every thing. Nowadays I think there just to damn expensive. :oi-grr:

Go Gal and I both have pers plates on our Honda's.
I bought hers (GoGal) on Trade Me second hand, for way less than the current new price, and it's the plate she has wanted for years - real lucky it came up/I spotted it/won the auction.
I bought mine (CoCar or Company Car) about 10 years ago and forgot all about it when my new Trophy was written off, - just got it re made ($20 or so) a year ago.

I have looked into this previously myself... and come up with a few good ideas to boot. The $700 odd dollars is apparantly for the future rights to the letter/number combination, therefore one plate or two plates makes no difference. (I felt the same way as you - 2 plates full price, 1 plate therefore = half price) but not so.
I do reckon its way too high tho - considering that the 'actual' cost to manufacture is around $8. Nothing like printing your own money ay?
As for anonomiminintity (?) I dont think it matters all that much if you arent someone who goes out of their way to break the law or do supposedly 'stuntish' acts...
Mikkel
4th August 2008, 14:49
Next time I have $700 I just have to spend and there's nothing else I want - then maybe.
But that would mean there was no more food and no more alcohol on the planet... or petrol for that matter.

I like my plate...so I'm easily recogniseable but then I dont have any desire for anonymity. When I lived in Auckland I used to get loads of PMs from people saying "Saw you on the Southern the other day, your bike sounds way more than 600cc bro" and stuf like that.
It's nice.

If it's just an expression of individuality your after, There are companies out there with state of the art laser cutting sign writing thingies, that can make just about any design you can think of to stick any where on your bike.
They look really good, they distinguish your bike from the other four million cbrs, they don't cost anything like number plates, you can have any design your brain can come up with( MARTYBABE IS GREAT) for example, and if ya get bored with it or sell yer bike, ya just peel it off and bin it.
Oh and if you spotted making a silly (mistake) on the road, 7 out of ten people won't remember your plate said (BOOBS).
Just a thought. :niceone:

Strangely, nor have I...
I fitted a personalised plate to my bike after I finished the restoration two years ago. It just seemed to finish the bike better than simply getting the next random plate off the pile at the local testing station. I had been able to make the call on everything else I'd fitted to the bike, and it was nice to be able to choose the plate too.
I'm sure my wife will notice if I begin to exhibit any change of sexual orientation.

as long as you don't see your plate as an investment, if its model specific you may find a very limited market if you want to sell it later on - it can take several years and you will end up giving the plate away for a lot less than you paid for it

Was going to get 86GSX for the bike(available),then thought nah no good when bike is sold,no good having it on another model or make. The wife suggested IBTIT,spaced it out to read I BT IT,applied and got it,couldn't put it on as a message plate, but if I put it on the car can turn it into message plate.Thought yep they're naff and $$$,but thought fuck it cancer sucks and I'm alive.

I love to try and work out plates. Have seen some good ones on motorbikes too. My fav was PIGB8:rofl:
I had a personalised plate on my car 'cxewrx', was funny looking in the rear vison mirror and see the expressions on the person in the vehicle behind as they worked it out. BUT it wasnt til after purchasing a personalised plate that i realised it would be harder to hide, in a carpark from:Police:. Luckly it never came to that...

Just a shame the bikes are restricted to 5 letters/numbers, cars get a extra one.
Bike ones should be a lot cheaper - Max $300 and I think they would sell more.
I have one in mind if I come into spare money (WTF's spare money?).

When the personalised plates came out.
It was a novelty.
I was first.
$375
Then it stayed in the garage.
When it was time to get the bike back on the road I realised how dorky it was.
So I sold it.
Never again.
Wish I still had the pic to show you.
But it was:
MY HOG
Beemer
6th August 2008, 14:43
I had BMWCS on my Beemer when I owned it, and sold it with the plate as it couldn't really be transferred to anything else than a Beemer. I was asked if I would sell it separately so I said $500 (I paid $330 I think for it), which was less than what a new plate was going for, but was told that was too dear!
I then got LOOCE for the Goose - but it has zeros instead of Os. Old guys ask if my name is Lucy, but some people get that it's a Loose Goose!
If they are now retailing for $750 then I would have to want one really, really badly to buy one again.

See, this is interesting. Unless I'm mistaken, we've never met.
And unless I'm mistaken, you feel you're entitled to evaluate something I've disclosed about myself and proceed to tell me it's gay, even though you know nothing about me.
Then, unless I'm mistaken, YOU get snotty when I attempt to defend myself.
My friend, unless I'm mistaken it seems that folk who are quick to offer humiliating comments are often the folk who have achieved nothing themselves, and are generally reflecting their own low self image.
