last friday I was lucky enough to find this on TradeMe. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=167642139
I made one bid and won it. After reading the description, I was expecting a bike that had a broken kickstarter but started easily with a push start, went very well and had great get up and go.And great to ride. Also I expected to see clean oil and a new plug.
Well after paying to have it delivered from the owner in Waitara, Mr Trev Tolhopf. I discovered that the bike could not be started or ridden because the countershaft had snapped inside the gearbox causing the bearing on the cluch side to come out of its home in the casing and destroy itself and the casing behind the kickstarter mechinism. thus destroying the engine comprehensively.
Oh yes, and it took out the kickstarter return spring!
Would any one here have the guts to represent this as the above bike that 'goes well and is fun to ride!'
When I rang and emailed this guy He just told me to get fucked!
I might even be persuaded to post up his emails!::innocent:
The lesson: Dont trust anybody that you have never met- they might just turn out to be an utter arsehole......

Yep, there are wankers, and they are both buyers and sellers... hence why I can't be stuffed listing my bike on trademe, only to deal with timewasters wanting a spin.
If I can, hell, just trade it, take a dollar hit, but so much easier. We have the online trading on kb too... :Punk:

Email or call trademe, I've had a prob with a poor seller once, albeit not to this level.
The backup they gave me was surprisingly good and things got fixed up fast.
Good luck with it all though, sounds like you have good grounds for mis-representation or fraudulent something.
Sneaky bastard:angry2:

Follow up with Trademe, if no luck then definately go to Small Claims Court, this bike was misrepresented.

Stu - first of all (here it comes - the should've bit) ya should have given me a bell and I could have checked it out for you (and at least got it up to Hamilton FOC).
Do you want me and da boys to cruise out to Waitara and pay him a 'personal' visit? :bash:

On a more serious note, definitely inform TradeMe and give them copies of any incriminating emails etc, failing any action there then its definitely worth doing the small claims tribunal thing.
That kind of arsehole relies on people rolling over - he deserves to get 'fucked' himself....

I was a bit gutted with some of the stuff I discovered when I bought my Ducati.
Speedo cable snapped, rev counter cable snapped, headlight shorted out half the electrics, hole in the engine caused by a snaped chain then repaired with bog and painted silver. At least it was running and I couldn't really prove that this hadn't all been done by the previous owner or the owner before him really.
I just sucked it up and made the repairs - happier now but oh so wary of trademe purchases from now on.

Tough luck on your part which is a bastard,he had good feedback so can understand why you bid on it.I have bought both bike and cars off trademe, the bike I checked out and rode, the cars, first one was bought from description and picture, was ok and flew through 4 wof later no worries($625 celica also from Waitara),next one was bought after viewing so no problems.

Talk to trademe....
Easier said than done. They are unlisted in the phonebook and only want you to call them on their 0900 line.
Since I am one of the 3000 "terrorist suspects", attempting to get any info from BetradeMe is similar to getting sense out of a politician.

Sounds like the standard warnings surrounding private sales are in order - and an invitation for Mr Waitara to have a public roasting...!

OOOOh.... Ive been out for tea and had a phone call while I was out...
It seems that Trev Tolhof who sold me the bike was using his mates Trade me account. (probably been barred from having his own)! the guy who's account it is rang me and reckons that I have been putting bad questions on his other auctions! - come on fess up! who's been 'Helping"?
I really feel sorry for this dude, he's got a wanker for a mate and he now gets bad feedback from me cos of it and further still gets a pasting from someone on here!
IM OFF TO TRADE ME FOR A LOOK!
Oh and Baldrick- thanks for your offer- but I first saw the auction with only 2 minutes to go- you wouldnt have got to waitara in time to stop me!

That's strange, because it looks to me like the seller doesn't have any other listings.

Either way "Trev" is still responsible as it was his account being used, maybe he should have told his mate to get fucked, fuck off!
St_Gabriel
4th August 2008, 22:42
ooops Trev is not responsible, but the account holder/owner is responsible (holdenvp1)
PS I am sure most buyers would have bid considering holdenvp1s' feedback, you cant fault 30 +ves and no neutral or -ve

4th August 2008, 23:00
I know where Mr holdenvp1 (account holder)use live hey and guess what they are related i would even go as far as saying that the bike was picked up form 98 ------ street Waitara same place MR Mr holdenvp1 has his car regod to which wont really help much as his profile says he lives in auckland.

The dealings I have had in the past with trademe tells me that they don't want to know about any problems.

Odd. They were in Wellytown last time I looked. Perhaps with the buy-out by Ozzies, they relocated?

WELL GUYS>>> ITS ALL SORTED!I did a courts search on his name and found that last year he was convicted and fined for unlicenced car dealing . So I rang him and suggested that as the people from Auto Auctions and the car transport company said that they knew him well and that he was a good customer. So that they would be the best place for IRD and the MVDI to start asking questions.
After that, he was so helpful and we negotiated a substantial rebate on the price!
so now I have a very cheap KLX waiting for parts to arrive from Aussie.
Thanks everyone for you concern and good advice.- its nice to win one occasionally!:first:

Good one mate glad to hear it!!
Did you use the Ausie parts link search we suggested? Its not bad for the older bikes, their dollar is not to far away from ours, and their parts are priced much better than our wreckers.
Good result!

Sorry to hear about your misrepresented purchase - I would firstly leave the appropriate feedback for this trader (making sure you word it so that other traders can see the basis of complaint) and then Id contact Trade Me and give them all evidence of communication with the trader. And like our good friends mentioned above in the thread - hit him with small claims court if all else fails. This guy needs to be taught how to "Treat people the way he likes to be treated" Im sure he wouldnt like the whole world turning round and telling him to get fucked now would he?
PS - if it gets to small claims - fight for a sum to get the bike fixed. It will cost him more than what he got from you for the bike in the first place(providing rest of bike is worth it of course) and maybe teach the twat not to misrepresent stuff again.
And if all that fails - jump in your old Bedford Fire Engine and go and hose him lol! Let us now how you get on mate - best of luck aye.
