My train(boat) leave's in a few weeks :crybaby: and well I feel the need for a PIE,and , plus a little speed and some bloody good old fun in the south with amazing people.
So to all southern riders whos up for the THE PIE RUN!? This Sunday 10th leaving form yaldhurst Pub around 10 ish:2thumbsup

If their is no more real hardy southern riders then we could change to another ride like akorua or north as a back up plan:oi-grr:.I want PIE:angry2:

Okay okay then Jacksons is a no go, bloody grit. So were to then, looks like two places lets say 1,north to Greta, scargill poss Hurunui or poss, Cheviot, waiau, waipara home or 2, Hill top plus some Gebbies too? So what do we think? One or Two

Road not the best at the moment for bikes. still a while away, really depends on weather. probably something along the lines of dangerous's suggestion? . Not as cold,no snow and lower down , and lower chance of a woopsie.

Another idea is up to Geta across to Waikari and back home.
Could even go up to the Hurunui Pub for a bit of a extra blat.
And there are some good places to stop.
I have been doing it a bit lately as the roads are good apart from a bit of grit between Geta and Waikari are good.

That is what I was planning to do this weekend.
I'm so over the Hill top trip unless it is real early before the traffic has built up.

Either direction will be dodgy on Sunday, the forecast is for snow down to 200m and they've issued a warning for farmers to move stock also so any areas with altitude will be suspect especially the pieces of road that don't see a lot of sun plus there'll be fresh grit down in plenty of places

got all the bits, just awaiting for the painter to finish the body work, than its ummm 3 days assembly, two packets of bandaids, a 6 pack of woodys then 3 weeks sorting out the quirks before getting a WOF. Now um .....yeap ...got three weeks off work comming in Sept...not a problem!

But yeah watch out for the cold snap this weekend.. more snow

Yep I think Jacksons could be a bit dodgy this time of year but a decent run up to Hanmmer might be another day trip idea. I'm in at the mo' unless something comes up. Or even down to Geraldine. Nice run that and they have decent pie too.

I could be keen - provided that the route is grit free and the weather behaves itself. I'm still getting used to the 750 so I'm not really keen on taking it out on dodgy roads - and I suspect Arthur's Pass would have many potential nasties this time of year.

I vote route one.

Main drag longer ride, road is well used so will always be clear. (less grit)
Easier to keep group together.
If any problem's with snow they are at the Greta end last few miles. (forget the pass's name)
Chance of going further if weather is good.

Good food, crap coffee and nice warm log burner.

+boring drag, err dont under stand the well used bit
+group should always do its own thing as indviduals (Weka Pass)
+same... akaroa
+same at Hill top but Coffees good.

So route two (unless roads closed to Sat's southerly blow)

Well used mean it will aways be open and if the road is close though snow it will be opened in a hurry so will not get trapped for long if it goes pear shaped.

Well used means ice grit etc is sweeped off and will be cleaner and safer.

Yes we can alway ride as individuals anywhere and anytime.
I thought this was a group ride?

Akaroa is tight and twisty and with lots of cars and if icy or snowy = lots of grit ice because of the shadows.

Yes it is boring compared to the road to the hill top, but is safer at this time of year. IMHO

As that road can and does get closed because of snow easier than the road to Greta because of all the hills and as it sticks out and catchers more bad weather.

I have ridden to the Greta lately with snow on both sides of the road so it would have to get pretty bad to stop me riding to the Greta safely because the road is kepted clear.

Just my 2cents worth.

As that

sorry i ment by 'individual' we shouldent be worried about the 'esae of keeping the group togeather' a broken feild is a good thing (refering to your arse up on the Triumph)

looking out the window this morning the Hiltop may not be the best choice for a ride as you quote, north may be a beter option... the best option I reckon is to put off till next weekend.

Its been snowing up here in Greta , still is at the moment, so Scargil Valley and the Weka pass also heve snow, road is open but its friging cold.
The snow is exspected to continue all day up here.
Could be a bit slippery tomorrow if it continues.
But well, if your keen, then snow will not stop you.

Top ride guys and it did start off quick (must have all been keen for a ride) and then down to a, I'll keep my licence speed.

Great weather and good roads for this time of year.:scooter:

When we were leaving the last pub I got a flush of blood to the head and thought, I do not want to go home yet with such a nice day for a ride.:scooter:
I thought I had someone following me to Leader Valley.
I seen a bike I think and then it stopped following me.
I did slow down, sorry if someone was try to catch up.

Anyway the Leader Valley Rd was in real good nick as well.
A few grit sign's about, was no grit near them.
There was some and some may have been the normal shit you get on that road.
The one thing you had to be careful about, was that there had been a few land slides and there was a bit of clay on the road and one of the trucks that took the mud away needs a better tail gate as there was a line of clay for miles.
At one point there was so much clay on the road, knobbly's were all most needed.

Meet Shrek lone rider at Amberly when we both were topping up our tanks.
Sorry if I took off quick, (just to follow a cop most of the way home) I had to get home before SDU went to work and my feet were so so cold they were hurting.

Great to catch up with you guys again. even if I was on foot.
Loved the sound of your bikes leaving Greta.
To be sure I will be getting mine back togeather for the warmer days.
As long as I dont keep breaking tool bits, bugger.
Yeap we should be looking at some good condition roads this summer, a bonus from the winter rains, that some spots will be repaired earlier than planed, so looking forward to some good puttering around the south island to most of the ralleys. Yeap puttering, dont want to kill myself yet.
SuperSonic you enjoy your first summer up north, but keep the speed down those enforcment boys are thicker on the ground up there.
Cheers for the good chat. see you on the road this summer!
