plan tickets, check
accomodation? ...ummm
my loose plans are hiring a bike and communiting to and from melbourne for the qualification day and race day, staying in backpackers cos its a budget trip for me, being a student.
but am I better off staying closer, say in phillip island itself? or do it hard and camp at the track?
from experience, what is the recommendation??
cheers

From experience, if you haven't booked 3 months ago you won't get accomodation on the island. I would say the camp grounds will be fill up.
Last year I stayed with my mrs rellies about 30 mins from the track but if I didn't have that I would have had to get a camper or stayed 20-30 mins away from the track anyway.
Good luck finding something!!

I left sorting my accommodation fairly late, but got in here:

It's on the Island.
Good luck.

We booked campground about a week or so back. Highside (trackside too noisy even if there's room). /stayed there last year in tent and doing same again this year. Only drama is remember when coming back into NZ to declare the tent and allow time for them to fumigate it. Takes longer, but no dramas. Good fun, but hope weather better than last year.
Amenities at campsite are toilets, showers, shop, food vendors. $75/80 for the weekend each (plus lots of food & booze). Can;t go cheaper than that, I feel.

PM vtec, he's living in Melbourne at the moment. He might be able to put you up on the couch or something?
