Just past a bad smash on the Wairau Road. Looks like car hit bike pretty hard. No idea who was at fault. Rider sitting up holding helmet. Looked like the impact threw him clear. Tried to stop and see if help was required. Ambulance was just arriving and Police were close behind. Hope the guy's OK.

He was hit from the side/behind by a station wagon and continued forward at speed into the back of another station wagon. Bike was a small capacity cruiser of some sort. The rider was ok, obviously dazed and in shock, looked to have broken his right leg.

The driver behind was clearly at fault, gave the usual "I didn't see him" statement, which actually seemed honest enough, the guy couldnt make any sense of it at all.

For anyone riding through the area, it would pay to travel with caution in the area coming up to the lights in the left turning/straight through lane outside the honda showroom, just after the mobil, heading in a NW direction. Both forks split open and emptied their contents on to the right hand wheel track. So depending on how good the cleanup is/how much it rains over night, it might still be slippery there for a couple of days.

Well thank fuck for that eh! I was worried for a second there!

But with all seriousness, I don't particularly like pushbikes.. but running them off the road and stuff like that is still very shitty.

Wairau road is one route I could take to go home from work.. but when I'm riding I think I'll stick to the way I go in my car where there is very few multiple lanes.
