Don't know who was referring to aussies when it was the New Zealand team in the picture in their souped up crocs.

Olympics are all about national pride, if Aussies take jandals to be part of that pride, then good on them.

I'd rather do that than be a sheep and follow what every other country does.

BTW, it's bloody hot over there so jandals are practical!

People that want to dress appropriately for the conditions? Our team got a bit of flack for the croc issue too. I watched an interview with a couple of NZ hockey team members today for their feedback on the opening ceremony, they were glad of the CROCS  our team wore! Be comfortable, they all were wearing them, therefore it was uniform!

Do you think they should have had shoes and socks on? Perhaps suits and ties for the men, and long formal "frocks" for the ladies?

That pic shows them happy and hopefully comfortable. I hate CROCS! Never, ever catch me dead in them, but our team wore them and were comfortable. Meh, what does my opinion count for in this picture.

I wonder if they will play Waltzing Matilda if any Kiwi athletes win a medal?

fucking thank you, at least one person can read AND look at pretty pictures.

To spell it out to the rest of you, it had nothing to do with the shoes....
"Aussies wear sandals to opening ceremony" while they're holding the nz flag.

/sigh

The link didn't work first go - some of the code turns into a smiley.

Aussies wouldn't wear that jacket either.

Um.

You did look at the picture and realise that it's a mis-labelled photo of the New Zealand team, didn't you.

The Aussies presumably wore proper shoes to the opening ceremony.

I find it mildly odd that the black shirts with silver ferns on them didn't give very many people pause for thought after reading that caption.
