Check ya bloody tail lights!

Leaped onto the motorway just after 12:30am Tuesday after a fun filled afternoon/evening carting bods around, and almost arse ended a person on a small bike/scooter.

It was absolutely pissing down with rain, and had I not clocked the reflection of my headlights off his number plate, I probably would have scored a hood ornament.

Seeing as I had sod all else to do but come home and bleat on KB about it, I shepherded the rider at 75km/h from Manukau to Papakura, where he/she buggered off toward Karaka, and I made my way back to my place.

So folks, please check your tail lights regularly, don't give them 4 wheeled bastards any more excuses for de-shinying your ride than they already have.

And if someone reads this who had a car at a close but safe distance dogging them from Manukau to Papakura offramp in the wee hours, you're welcome. :)

Yep I agree with that.

Just do like we do with the trucks a quick 5 minutes walk around. (hell on a bike you can cut that down to 50 seconds)

Check
Front lights (high and low beam)
Indicators
oil
water
tires
wheels nuts
general vehicle structure for loose items
Rear lights (stop and rear beam)
Chain
Battery

Obviously I have modified the truck check to fit a motorbike

I hope this helps.
If any one wants a copy of the full truck walk around check I would be happy to offer a copy

Yeah but don't check them while you're riding - I did that once and when I turned back I was heading for a car - parked - on the other side of the road - at 90kph - lucky I was half cut and it was 3 in the morning - hardly hurt at all

yup, when things like that become habbit it is dead easy....but alas most kiwis are an apathetic bunch who all so commonly display the "she'll be right" attitude!

I've been a cage driver all my life until I got my bike nearly a year ago. Probabley guilty of many "sins"
Now when a bike passes me at 150k/h+ I still beat Bloody idiot !!!! ( my surgen joked at me last week AS I WENT INTO THEATRE and said he and his collegues refered to bikers as"POTENTIAL DONERS" ) but I find myself so much more aware of 2 wheel road users and often sheild them from other cagers.
Perhaps everyone should have to start on a bike so as to "be aware" of bikes and our vulnerability.

Gee - Im impressed. Boasting about being drunk in charge of a motorcycle not only does it for me... but also makes you sound SO manly and bad ass

What a sweetie. Sounds like they were oblivious to your kind actions, but all of us here appreciate it on their behalf. Like gijoe1313 said, pay it forward. A good philosophy to operate under!
p.s. that speed on the motorway?????? does sound like they were in need of a kind understanding person behind them - lucky for them you were there and not someone who would be less charitable.
