Title says it all. Post your comments. My Cage driving friend is really ignorant about Bikes.

The knowledge that every action you make on a bike is important is part of it.

Knowing that it's going to hurt a lot if you make a bad mistake encourages you to up your game... That holds a great deal of appeal to me personally. It's do or do not - there is no try.

Oh, and I fucking well HATE queuing!

>>picture says a thousand words<<

That bikers can't come up with a decent word to describe cars.

In every context that modern man understands - they're not.

Cope with it.

You don't have to witness to anyone, just enjoy the ride.

To be honest the only main reason I can think of that bikes are better than cars is the fun factor

DarkLord

Far more economical than (most) cars.

More agile and maneuverable - easier to get yourself out of trouble if need be.

Easier to get through queues.

Plus it's just nice to be DIFFERENT.

No bonnet to fly open when you're riding.

Don't have to wear a seatbelt.

The Air-con never breaks.

No radios ads.

Two wheels - makes it cheaper on tyres.... tui.

Bikes aren't better than cars - just different.

If you disagree then you're not a real petrolhead.

If you're honest, for many of you a bike is just an expensive toy, even if it's the only transport you have, and that's what the manufacturers work on when designing them.
I commute on mine, but when I figure in the total costs, given that tyres, chains, etc don't last that long, and the cost of all the gear I wear, it's not that competitive cost-wise.
But I enjoy it.
Mostly.
And that's not a cerebral thing, something that I need to rationalise - it's almost entirely visceral.

Why worry about justifiying your choice of transport to your friends?

I guess its one of those things that all bikers get when they see other bikers riding around or hearing bikes in the distance/passing by ... non-bikers don't get it ...

Its that look you get when you talk about bikes, its that feeling you get inside when you drool over bikes parked up or in showrooms ... hard to define, but you all "know" it instinctively!

And any form of transport is good (its just that two wheels happen to endear me more!)

Cars are 'fun' when you are steaming up the windows.:niceone:

Well, I can find plenty of reasons why cars are better than motorcycles too. Hell, if there was no difference why bother having a distinction?

Anyway, one really good argument for bikes: I can not afford a car that'll haul my arse from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds.

Cars are 'fun' when you are steaming up the windows.:niceone:

Depends - if it's because your aircon is broken and you're late for work it's pretty limited fun. If you're having a go at doing a stationary test of the shock absorbers - then yes :D

There are 18 Porsches on Trademe under $20k. None of them are 911s though...

If you post that - you're not a typical biker.

Bikes are better than cars because:
Instant conversation starter.
You meet a better class of people (present company excepted :stupid:).
Your transport is also your hobby.
When you take someone somewhere you actually have to go to great lengths to hear what they have to say. This often results in better conversation at stops.

But ultimately if you have to ask you will never know.

Mikkel
12th August 2008, 14:24

Only funny because you didn't slip and fall in the oil spill I wager - and because you didn't have to pay the repair bill.

Anyway, one really good argument for bikes: I can not afford a car that'll haul my arse from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds.

That's why I got into bikes. Poverty is a great motivator.

Growing up watching Knight Rider and playing with hotwheels I didn't know bikes existed.:stupid:

0-100 in 4 secs? Try 0-250 in around 15-17 seconds..(or less if I'm commited)

I miss my poor old bike...

Why worry about justifiying your choice of transport to your friends?

This was what i thort at first. I know i love bikes and at first that was enough BUT then my mate tried to tell me cars were faster than bikes. After i picked myself up off the floor and managed to stifle the laughter i spent the next 30mins trying without success to explain the glory of two wheels to him.

don't think your going to get many ferrari's or porsche's for $20k?

This was one of my main points in this argument with said friend. I attempted to compare (kinda hard i know) a late model WRX or Lancer Skyline whatever. The way i put it to him i said i could buy a gixer r1 whatever and they would all smoke the cages AND i would still have enough for a nights worth of gambling at sky city, the best room in the Hilton Hotel and a night with Lisa Lewis all the while amped up on P :msn-wink:

Joking bowt the P tho hahha

If you do 250m in 17 seconds you must have a really slow quarter ;)
