As some will know I have been recovering from a motorcycle crash (freak accident with goat/sheep running into my path) that left me with multiple injuries... the worst of which is a head injury which has left me off work since June.
Its my third major concussion over the years (1st hit head on rock, then hit in head with bat... don't ask!), so rehab is slow given it was also a good whack to the head causing me no end of memory problem amongst other issues.
The downside to the consequences of the crash is that my employer is getting impatient with the return to work rehabilitation process etc and is looking to "retire" me on medical grounds - which is an easy "out" for them.
With wife, child and another bubs on the way (due Feb 09) this is very bad news for us.
SO...... We have hired one of Auckland's best employment lawyers to assist in the meeting - this Friday. At nearly $400 an hour she better be good!
Wish me luck!!

I am guessing you have an ACC case manager that is taking care of the rehabilitation process? It can be tough for employers to hold positions open indefinately and is one of my bigger fears should the same fate become me.
Good Luck and I hope you get the result you want

Good luck, dude.
Goodness knows the National Bank's had enough money out of me over the years; I'd far rather they paid it out in wages to a decent cunt who's recovering from a knock on the head than sent it over to get slurped up by the Aussie shareholders.

Sorry to hear that Toaster, hope it all gets favourably sorted.
Dunno about the $400/hr lawyer though - I once paid one of them around a grand pretty much to type up a letter the content of which I substantially provided... The circumstance was resolved in a manner I found to be acceptable however I seriously wonder if I coulda done just as well myself and saved the $$$.
But I guess sometimes it might pay to have a mean looking attack dog with really sharp teeth and a good growl, even if you have to tell them when to bark and bite.

Good luck bro, I know who it feels. I got the same treatment, after being told there was definitely a job there for me by the nurse manager (who has since left as he was porking the female staff that would let him, supposingly a devout christian and married---> TUI ADVERT) since the day of my accident. Missed ample opportunities while in the spinal unit to get some more help chasing a job. Hope your outcome is much better than mine. My contract makes it pointless to do what your doing so best of luck!!!:niceone:

Terrible situation to find yourself in, fancy having to fork out to a lawyer to keep your job through no fault of your own! Disgraceful!
Good luck Cam, I really hope things pan out the way you need them to. A medical retirement is the last thing you need on your resume.
Wonderful news about a new brother or sister for Mitch though!
Take care now!

Good luck T. The memory thing sounds crap, and sucks that your employer isn't supportive. Time to move on, look at it as a "blessing" and that perhaps that it was meant to be?
As Ocean said/implied: things could have been a lot worse for you and your whole family, but I know that kind of optimism wears pretty thin pretty damn quick.

Thats been the problem from the beginning, bloody thing keeps gettin in the way !
Good luck dude !
IMHO i wouldn't be sweating it too much !
Know you prolly value the job and it might be crushing to yr career to be retired ! Bet 80% of yr wage/salary aint been to flash to get used to either, But like Col mentioned, everything in perspective !
I think back now and would give me rear teeth, to have been able to spend 24/7 around my kids when they were that young !
You wouldn't see me working my arse off again for the first few yrs, even if it means a lifestyle change and said kids and wife didn't have all the cool toys they had !
Congrats on the new babe on his/her way man ! Enjoy them while they're young cause it goes way to quick !

Thanks! Yep, I hope it can take two seats, especially now my fuel will be free. Apparently we have a range of cars to choose from... but I doubt it will be anything bigger than a mid sized car.
We will have to keep our big Ford Futura station wagon though, as my much loved lady needs a big car suitable for strollers and kids etc during the day to do her motherly duties... and she also works part-time.
We are trying to "make hay while the sun shines", so to speak before she stops work in January before bubba-two arrives.
Might hang onto the Mitsi Lancer for a while yet - it's mint and I have owned it since new. Di would use this one to get to work in the meantime.
Things have worked out so well!

So what does he do, goes and asks for community service....:angry2:
