Fork seals?

One of my forks is leaking quite badly on my ZXR250. Can someone suggest somewhere good to get the seals replaced? I will take the forks off the bike myself and take them in to save on labour.

I live in Mt Eden. Spoke to Mt Eden Motorcycles and they thought it would cost around $315 all up to do both. Colemans said around $180. That's quite a difference in price! Can people recommend somewhere better?

Probably because Mt Eden are quoting using genuine seals, which in all respects are much better than almost all aftermarket options. Maybe also they may be quoting with dust seals and / or a better quality of oil. I am always suspicious of cheap pricing.

what are the tubes like, if thay are pitted thay will just chop up ur new seals,

The price from Colemans sounds more like what I've paid in the past especially if your taking them off yourself. Its a pretty easy job (easy to stuff up too).
Its worth paying extra for genuine seals though too... had that one let me down before

Anyone had a go at using epoxy to fill the pitting in the staunchions?

Not epoxy but have had a lot of success from clear nail varnish on small chips that were causing a bit of leakage.

if you can take the forks off its not much more effort to replace the seals

Not epoxy but have had a lot of success from clear nail varnish on small chips that were causing a bit of leakage.
The other one you hear about is JB-Weld. Apparently it's more resilient to just falling out, which happens with Araldite.

Yes it is if you don't have the following :rattle gun , 6 mm allen key fitting for rattle gun , 2 piece fork seal driver cos ZXRs have USDs . It also pays to know what your doing or its very easy to stuff it up . Check fork staunchion for wear on the back of the leg just underneath the seal , seen quite a few 250s losing the chrome up there .

The tubes are pitted quite badly near the bottom but they don't get down that far anyway. Might attempt to fill it in with something so I don't have to change the seals again too soon.

I ended up taking the to spectrum in barry's point Rd. Cost $99 to replace seals and oil but they couldn't get the dust seals. Only charged me for half an hour labour.

2 piece fork seal driver cos ZXRs have USDs

You can use a piece of PVC pipe with a slit cut into it. Sort of collar shaped

Took mine to Drury Performance, ask for Mike. I tried to do it myself, but ended up damaging things coz I didn't have the seal driver. :doh:
