On my way home tonight the wheels on my RG felt unsteady, almost like they were'nt on properly. So I pulled over and checked that they were'nt actually loose and they were'nt so I checked my tyre pressures at the station and they were sweet, though I had just pumped them up on Sunday.... I am at a lose to think what it might be!

Has anyone else ever had this problem? I think its most likely in my mind but just in case its not what else should I be checking out on the bike? Any suggestions welcome!!

I know the feeling, had my SV in for a service, picked it up the next day, got a couple of K's down the road and it felt like the steering was out, back wheel all over the place, I shat myself, slowed as gradually as possible and pulled off the road.

Bike was absolutely fine, all checked out ok, nothing out of place.. Jumped back on and still felt weird, but just rode through it. Was all in the head.. though very weird feeling..

That YOU aren't drunk

No seriously though only thing I can think of is uneven or ugly wear...the SV felt like that to begin with on that ferkin horrid tyres it had and once i had newish rubber on it went away completely.

Other than that I can't help...drinky o'clock I reckon.

I've noticed this a bit lately and it has always been in the same bits of road.Ithink the roads are losing the shape and getting rutted out. Yes i checked my tires too.

i had this problem once, turned out i had a bulge in the front tyre.

I have struck that before and it was the road. Just an uneven surface that looked fine but had wee corrugations in it.
Slightly different feel as you pumped up the tyres on Saturday is probably the more likely cause though. Bikers are just so aware of what their bike is doing that any little thing can feel like a huge difference.

Hey, now there's a really good point! The road surfaces around Welly are absolutely shocking at the moment!

Spoke wheels or mags ? Could be loose if spoked , did you run your hand around the tyre while its on the main ? Sometimes tyres let go inside which creats a bit of a bulge in the centre of the tread which would give ya a wobble (till it blows its guts and spills ya off)

Also check the steering head bearing tightness. If it's not obviously loose then you might need to get someone to lift the bike front wheel , (most bike you can stand on the side stand and pull the handle bars back to lift the front wheel) like they do in a warrant check, while you see how sloppy it is.

wheel bearings
steering head bearings
wheels out of alignment
chain worn out
forks - bent-empty-uneven fluid
rear suspension broke
sprokets worn
frame bent
brake discs warped

If you're using SH2 from Wellington to the Hutt use the outside lane. The inside (slow) lane is an absolute mess after the weather we've had, and of course the heavy traffic.

The RG is pretty light as well so you'll feel any imperfections more than on something heavier. Still never hurts to give the beastie a once over.

Its funny isnt it....The bike was completely fine on the ride in this morn. Though the bike does now feel like it is tipping into corners faster. I think its all in my mind!!

I think you're right. A lot of it is in the mind (riding is all about confidence). Little bit less wind around as well, and that can be really offputting if it's striking you at an oblique angle (oh yeah managed to get oblique in).

Was that you, getting onto the motorway from Clifton Terrace just after 5pm? Purple RG? I was in a cage (bike's getting new tyres) and thought "something's not right with that bike." It looked kinda wobbly, hard to describe... If that was you, better get it looked at!

Maybe get someone more knowledgeable to ride or drive behind you and have a look...

Nope, mine is white and red and has race numbers and stickers all over it. Maybe it was just a bad day for RG's. That or some noob may have been riding the purple RG.....

Had the same problem, going over piecock one night with glen and clare. Turned out, it was my air pressure and alot of oil on my tyre. True story. But that's been covered in your case. Me thinks you need to do some thrashing to fix those tyres ;). Square tyres are fun on the track, they feel like your going to die at a certain lean angle, but then you realise your sweet. Its a weird feeling.

Get "moo" to take it for a ride he's a good inspector. But i didn't have to tell you that :baby:

I've had a similar experience... after filling up will gas... my rear wheel was parked in Diesel... mmm was a very disturbing feeling... so you could have got something on your tires if it is now fine...

Tried that and got myself into thousands of dollars of debt. I want a bigger bike but I dont really *need* one right now. Anyway, I bought the RG so that I can race it and ride it on the road while saving $$ to buy a bigger bike. Im in no rush right now.

Anyway, the bike is sweet, I must've just had an "off" day or summat?!

Cher cher!! :wari:

I actually reckon that I have more fun while riding my RG than the bigger bikes. You have to be more aware of what its doing, change gear more frequently and you have to really work it to stay at a constant speed sometimes too!

As for bucket racing, well, its the most fun for bogans on bikes like since like aaaaages ago!

It is good fun eh! I must say, I do miss havin a lil' bike you can thrash on the open road (with out really gettin up to ridiculous speeds) and drop if need be with out really braking your wallet.

In saying that though, it is nice being able to go up hills and overtake with ease :shifty::laugh:

Small bikes rock, its not hard to stay on the back of big bikes tho the twisties.

I guess ease is the key, but determination has many a time seen me overtake cars up the port hills on the mighty RG :niceone: Sounds like you're going warp speed too haha

But you really do appreciate some power, gad I wish my 750 wasn't in bits :(

Hehe, but, have you ever tried the Rimutaka's on an RG.... Its awesome, you dont have to brake at all, except for those pesky bliman cars! You're just changing through the gears and revving he shit outta ya lil beastie, its AWESOME! I loved it on the bigger bikes but I just couldnt quite get the same satisfaction that I got from my RG! :D
