Amazing. That chain is nuts!
I must say I liked the bike naked :innocent:
One thing occurred to me looking at it - if the tyres were scrubbed at the edges it would fool most people in the photos.

That is so far down the road of obsessive it's no longer funny.
I don't even have that level of detail on my full size bike
Check out pic #171756 - 2 versions. The real thing and the replica. You can see the modeller has overtensioned the chain.:Pokey:

that amount of detail you would almost expect to be able to fill the tank and have a runing model. Im sure it would take less time to build the real thing from the ground up.

The CX500 has decals over spray painted body parts. (I did say I wasn't Asian, didn't I?)
Lots of painting of individual parts though.

Nice work Katman and others. That Yamaha at thread start looked sweet. I found a awesome series of tutorials on youtube once from some Japanese model tv show, the detail that pro guy did was amazing.
Been making models since about 12-13, never been an expert but all good fun mucking about. Started with mostly planes/cars then moved in to bikes trucks ships and military later.
I tend to rush them a bit but here's some of my humble efforts and occasionally made up paint schemes.

1. Anyone else spot the Tamiya NZ Ministry of Transport CB750 Cop bike currently on TradeMe?
I tried to paste the link twice sorry, so you'll have to search it
2. I'm really keen to collect a few models - what scale should I go for to give the best selection and quality please? I'd prefer not to have 2 or 3 different scales. - thanks in advance

Aaahhh the modellers nemesis, conflicting scales....
Pretty much all the bike stuff is 1/12. Cars and trucks all 1/24-1/25 (cant really tell the difference), Military is 1/35 and 1/72, ships 1/350 1/700 and other in betweeneres like 1/400 etc...
A lot of the cheaper Chinese kits like Dragon and Trumpeter are very well made now, the tooling is up there with Tamiya and hasegawa etc...

Are you looking to assemble kitset models or just collect models already built?
I only bother with the 1:6 scale models as the smaller ones don't have anywhere near the same detail.
Tamiya never made a huge selection of models in that scale and they have only released one new one in recent years - the HD Fatboy.
Just looked on their site though and noticed a suggestion that there are more 'coming soon'.
It will be interesting to see what they have chosen to produce. I could never figure out what criteria they used when selecting the models they produced back in the 80's.

I haven't seen any series of collectibles (i.e. buy this magazine and get a free model each month) that have been of particularly startling quality.
In fact I'd describe those I've seen as being rather poor quality.

This set of models is interesting. They are about 1/16th scale and are cast metal.

I have the Katana one and while they don't make any real pretense of great detail they have some very interesting models in the series.
Goodness knows where you get them from though.

Would you like a 1/72 A10 Thunderbolt II (Warthog)?
Bought it 24 years ago, might be time to admit I'll never assemble it. Doesn't look like my son will either.

Rule of thumb for a keen modeller - for every model you finish, you'll have at least 2 more in store "for a rainy day" . I sold approx 150 kitsets before I moved over here - some dating back 25-30 yrs. Now, I just collect diecast and resin assembled models - 1:43rd race cars and 1:24 scale bikes. Easier on the aging eyesight and leaves more time for riding.......:msn-wink:

I love making models - but I'm not very good at it and I so rarely have the time - I have an F14 tomcat that so far only had the landing gear painted and the Cockpit assembled!

Thanks for the offer but your better putting it on trademe.
I would actually like the 1/48 or 1/32 scale A-10 with the extra engine detail kit etc one day....
Making a foray into diecasts myself like someone else mentioned, some cools tuff there that's not available in plastic.

My dad flew Brewster Buffalos out of Singapore in the early days of the Pacific part of WWII. A few years ago I thought it would be cool to see if I could find a model of the plane. Not only did I find the model, but it turned out the model was based on planes flown by my dad's RNZAF 448 squadron. Not only that, but according to my dad's flight log, the individual plane (W4138) depicted in the model was flown by my dad on one sortie. I took more trouble with that model than any other I have made.

Very unlikely. If you find a kit at a good price, grab it immediately. Prices are skyrocketing and evilbay prices are astronomical.
Weta refuse to re-release the kits as they currently appear, BUT intend to release a "collectors grade" range with a few extra bits in the future. Naturally these will be at stupid prices that only the wealthy could possibly afford, rather than a member of the general public who has an interest in the subject material.
