Are those questions really for the motobike theory test? I don't want to buy the bike load code just for a test.

There's something like 275 possible questions they can ask you, so those are only a sample at best.

the ltsa website has the road code (http://www.ltsa.govt.nz/roadcode/index.html) on it for free... learner questions too and the bike questions can be brought from the LTSA. There are 5 sheets of questions and I think they are $1 a sheet. They are probably also on the site I just havnt looked.

Here's a thought, why not use it to learn and understand the road rules instead.
May just keep you alive - though, in your case I can see why the few dollars spent on a road code would be a total waste.

Yeah there's like 200 or so questions that they can possibly ask you about the roads in general (who gives way) and crap like that. Then there are the specialist questions to do with the class of licence that you are applying for, in your case, hopefully, is class 6, a.k.a motorcycle.

Just buy the book, it's an interesting read and only about thirty bucks. :dodge:

when i was prepping for my theory test i just checked all the stuff at www.ltsa.govt.nz - they have the full road code online for free and all possible test questions as well - i just went through the code a few times then repeated all the test questions over and over until i knew them all without any question - if you are unsure you can click on a link that takes you to the relevent points in the road code so you can learn up on it and get it right next time...

the one question in the ENTIRE thing that i could never get right was the one about who has the right to take a blood test if you dont pass the breath test..

not sure about the motorbike questions - i wasnt even prepared for them when i went in there to take the test (silly me) - but if you have been through the basic handling training/test then you should be able to answer them no problems

stuff like when breaking - do you only use front break
only use rear break
slam down on both breaks as hard as you can
carefully break with both front and rear break

umm. i choose the 3rd option >.> hah

another one i liked was when emergency breaking some of the options were like 'lean the bike to the side as you break hard' - i lol'd at that one.

there was 1 question in the bike section that i didnt get right - the rest was common sense/covered at the training course so was no problem

The LTNZ and www.drivinginstructor.co.nz sites are based around the Class1 licence (Car) I would suggest investing in a mere $25 for the 2008 Road for Motorcyclists. Can be purchased from most LTNZ agencies (AA, Onroad VTNZ etc) and from most bookshops (Whitcoulls, Borders...)

When you sit the theory (which for a motorcycle is AFTER the Basic Handling Skills Test) you will be given 25 general questions plus 10 'Specialist' questions relating to Motorcycles. $25 is a good investment if you want to be able to stay alive on our roads. :yeah:

If you already have the general road code, the general questions are the same nonsense as those. Specialist questions, I spent $5 on a pack of question sheets, and they did the trick nicely for a fraction of the price. I'm sure the motorcycle road code is worth a read though.

Thanks eveyone. I just want to know what for bike's theory test. I got overseas bike & car drive licence 11years ago. I got my full nz car licence 4years ago and bought road code at that time. So do i just need to do the 'Specialist' questions for bike? Are there two road code in nz? One for car and another for motorbike?

unfortunately new zealands LTSA (Land transport safety authority - ppl in charge of road laws/licensing etc) beauracracy dictates that they have to squeeze as much money from you as possible - have to sit the entire test separately for each different class of licenses (cars/bikes/trucks/buses etc) - cant just do the specialty questions for each class :(

In the motorcyle theory test there are 25 'general' questions (all from the normal road code) and a sheet of 10 'specialised' questions (not in the normal road code) just about motorcyle riding. The specialised question sheet will be a random 1 out of a total of 5 available sheets.
You can buy a copy of the specialised questions from the LTSA for $5 for all 5 sheets, and yes they cover ALL the specialist questions.

In the quiz link Kenzoo provides, the "correct" answer given for Q42 (If you stall or stop going up a hill, which brake should you use when starting off again?) is given as the rear brake.....which prompts me to wonder how you get the bike into gear again if you already have the other foot on the brake pedal.........so do ya hafta kinda liftbothfeetuprealquickandkickitintogearbeforeyouf allover?....Why not just use the front brake instead and keep one foot on the ground I ask myself....?????? duhhhhhhh......

Yes they are. You must learn all those questions, and you will be tested on a selection (it may have been 10, I can't remember) of the questions (not all of them).

You must also learn all of the General Traffic Law questions http://www.drivinginstructor.co.nz/test.php?q_category=General%20Traffic%20Law%20Ques tions and you will be tested on 25 of those questions.

Those online practice tests are great, hubby and I sat our licences a couple of years ago and we kept testing ourselves online till we got them all right. Much quicker than flicking through the road code.

BUT be warned that these online tests do not include questions which have diagrams you have to study in order the answer the question. So you should invest in a road code book anyway. It is only $30 or so, which is cheaper than having to rebook the test if you don't pass because you didn't learn all the answers....

I studied by reading through the questions at the end of the 'bike road code, and looked up the responses for any I wasn't completely sure I knew correctly. What was frickin annoying was the number of ambiguous questions that even if you look at the page reference you couldn't be sure about hte answer (or you knew which one they meant was right but technically, multiple were). That which brake to use when pulling away was one.. the road code says use the front first (I guess when putting it into gear), then use the back when taking off (hard to use front brake and throttle)...

Man, I got mighty pissed off at some of those questions, actually. :angry: So glad I didn't get any stupid ambiguous ones in the test. (I would have fought so hard if I'd failed on one, though).

I looked at this thread before taking my test. The URL referenced in the very first post in this thread covered everything that I came across. The other general site that Land Transport provides covers the rest (the first part of the exam).

My step son did his test on Monday, all the scratchies $5.00 worth all the questions he sat was in the test questions we got from BP in porirua.
Yes he passed. He is loving riding. Very bad rider though lol.

Yeah man, I aced (100%, and then had to wait 5 minutes for doing it too fast) thanks to that site. I think that site has all 75 or so possible questions they pick from. The 10 I got were on there anyway.
