While I know a little about bikes I know F*ck all about cars wiring.
A few of us are planning a south island trip and would take dads van, 99 Toyota Hiace.
In these vans you can not hear anything from the radio in the middle seats while driving and the 2 stock speakers in the front are pretty much blown.
I plan on replacing the 2 stock ones in the front and adding 2 new ones in the back somewhere.
It has a Pioneer head unit, will know specs tomorrow.
What I am stuck on is
-How do I remove the covers on the front speakers (little plastic thingies)? I haven't actually bothered to try and figure that one out myself.
-Where on earth can I find the wiring for rear speakers? I'm sure its somewhere but just isn't being used. Yes the head unit is for 4 speakers.
I'm not after a sub or anything but would like to be able to actually hear music.
I'm not a newbie on electrics or wiring so don't need help on that bit
Cheers

hey mate, are the front speakers in th dash?if they are my hiace was a mission to get to them,i just installed components (speakers) in the doors, you may need to make some spacers to hold them in.
if its a hassel to find your rear speaker wires, you could just run some new ones under carpet etc.
good luck

You gotta take the dash surrounds off. ie the whole dash cover. Start at the bottom and work your way up from memory.

you need to take the dash under the steering colum few screws along the bottom as weel as the back door release ansd steering colum covers. for the other side taking out the glove box should be enough screws along the bottom come out on an angle.
fittin the head deck remove all the heater control and the srcew that go up through the vents un do all the plug as the whole surounding and vent comes out. Run wires under carpet up past hand brake for rear speakers a small pair of boxed 6x9 should fit behind drivers and passengers seats easy.

Sweet thanks guys, Will have a look this afternoon, if I can't find the cables I might just use the terminals of the front speakers in parallel, I think that should be ok.

Stock fronts are shithouse. they are a 4 inch speaker. you can get a new one, but you'd be better to fit something like a 6x9 like booom did. I'm sure he would be happy to tell you how he did it. PM him.

Um in my Hiace I had 2 speakers hung from the roof support just behind the driver. If its a commercial Hiace you should find that support is a bolt in item --undoo the 4 bolts and itll drop down or at least rotate enough to get the wires in there Run your wires inside it and they exit into the lip holding the roof on. -Run the wires round the lip then down inside the front roof pillar.
Personally I'd pull the plugs out of the front speakers--they add sod all to sound quality
