Im not sure. never riden one. I had a 250 and it was slow enought. Personally, if i was in the possition with licence restrictions again, I would never go below 250.

You had an RG250 and thought it was slow? :eek5:
The Rg150 is an excellent choice for a beginner.Fast (180kph) , excellent handling, economical, easy to maintain, and forgiving of novice errors . And gentler than its big brothers

Oh I told it all wrong. I had a Honda VTR250, and that thing was slow (160 tops).
What I was saying is that i think a 125cc motor is a waist of time. He will want to upgrade much sooner with it. On the motorway he'll get sick of the pitchy noice, and overall he'll probably get bored too soon.

Have you ridden an RG150 before? Only thing I found frustrating was having to take oil with you if you were going for long rides... Other than that... It was such a neat little bike! Esp once you got the power band:banana:

Pfffftttt....... nancy
Mine used to do the gravel corro loop easy. Even did the goat track that my father called a driveway in Kati. Most cars failed at that driveway and we had to get them out with the David Brown.
I wanted and RMX250.....dad told me i could only get the RG......i compromised.

My RG150 was faster and more nimble than my RZ250........
New engine vs old really.
plus have you ever seen a 'mint, fully serviced' RZ/RG250........its like a unicorn man, or Santa

Okay....go get your RG150 retuned coz my wife had one and it was real fast up to about 150kph then kept going to 180kph.
I used to have a 140kg, 32hp VTR250 too MentalFacility. The 127kg 37hp RG150 would piss all over it from a great height.
Remember diferent permutations of Number of Cylinders, number of valves per cylinder and most importantly 2 stroke or 4 stroke (2 strokes can put out around twice the hp of a 4 stroke when properly tuned) make a huge difference to power output and speed.
The RG150 is an awesome little piece of budget machinery. Puts out the same kind of power as a Bandit 250....just in a narrower 2T band that's all
