Hello there, completely new user here, so please excuse any mistakes in placement of this post. I have looked at the other forums and cannot find any relating specifically to Wellington.
I'm not actually even in NZ at the mo, but will be moving there early next year, and so wanted to get an appreciation of the biker community around Wellington and talk to some people before I arrive. I was wondering if anyone could tell me about the resident clubs etc around the Wellington area please?
Many thanks

Hi there. Wellington eh, nice one! We Wellingtonions are a pretty nice sociable bunch, albeit a bit nutty, so I'm sure you'll find some people to ride about with probably just from here at Kiwibiker.
What kind of riding are you looking at doing? Trail/dirt bike riding, sight seeing/touring, fast/race track riding or just a cruise on a Saturday? What bike will you have here, sport/trail/cruiser?
As far as clubs go.... I'm not really sure, may depend a little on the answers to the above questions.
Anyway, welcome to KB and I hope the weather is a bit nicer when you get here to Wellington, as it's just started to hail again!:(

we do not gather at "pubs"
we do not ride.. just for the hell of it
we do not get together and race buckets
we DO try and dodge all revenue gathers...
we ONLY want good looking people to come here.. and you better bring either..

Tactful as ever AJ. See the idea is to get them here and then steal everything they brought with them, not scare them off before they get here, we're trying to grow our economy remember!!!

Southampton eh? I shall look forward to dishing out the welcome I got when I was living there. 9 months in Southampton permanently changed my personality.
Expect to be asked to speak English FFS, take off that belt and put a proper mini skirt on, and told repeatedly that Shirley ISN'T the coolest place in Britain.
It isn't funny to build condom sculptures in random places on the Common, and don't bring any of those fucking annoying pigeons that won't stop making that horrible noise, even in the midst of a nuclear holocaust.
The beer here sucks. Bring something good with you and I might be nice to you.

Thanks for the warm welcome :) That's an excellent point about the type of bike affecting which clubs are suitable, oops! I have my eye on a sports or naked 250 for the time being. I'll be using the bike to commute and for some weekend ride outs.

I'm not a Southampton native so understand your experience completely! The locals call it 'Sfamton' so i'm not entirely sure they speak english either...

Glad to hear it's worked out well for you :) I hoped to make some contacts before getting there myself so cheers for your greeting :D

Welcome aboard the site. Keep hanging around here and you will find plenty of things-to-do/people-to-ride-with. There are some interesting roads in the greater Wellington area. Not so many clubs here, unless you are into racing, but lots of casual rides and social events. See the Meetings and Events thread for an idea.

I'm not 100%, but i am fairly sure this place is indeed one of the 7 circles of hell...it's on the coast but has no beaches, it's perpetually overcast (when it isn't raining), and it has more traffic lights per square mile than any other city in the country. Frankly I can't wait to leave!
Don't know anyone in NZ so very glad to already have someone to have a drink with, cheers mate :D
