It's been a while coming since the crash.........

With a bit of work yet to do on minor scrape damage around the front bend in the exhaust, here are the pictures taken today of the bike.

It sounds fantastic with the new "slip ons"

Lots of changes from standard as you can see - the most obvious being greater use of the blue pearl black paint and it now has smoother gear changes and a fair bit more horsepower and low down torque too.... not like it needed it!

There may be further appearance work to come.

It's just a really fun bike to ride and is a great talking point with bikers and non-bikers alike.

Thanks so much to all of you who have been so supportive as I work through my rehabilitation from the injuries.

What did you do to give it more horses?

JSD kit, new exhausts, new bigger air intakes and no catalytic converter all add a bit of pep so to speak.

Looks very nice. I can't remember if it's all listed in the other thread, but do you want to give us a run down of all the extras you've added?

LIST OF MODS:
New slip-on 4" exhausts
By-pass the set-cam and removed catalytic converter - more HP and rumble

New Engine Guards -nice and shiny!
New Indicator assembly and coloured indicator bulbs with clear/smoked covers
New necklace for headlight

New tyres - wider front Metz ME 880 "160" and wider rear Metz ME 880 "260" which will lower rear another inch.

JSD kit - which effectively removes the limiter on lower gears and improves torque allows more use of the powerbands.

Holley big air intakes - really sucks in the air and helps the HP also.

Kurakyn foot pegs -wider and more comfortable on long rides

smooth shifter kit to make gear changes easier and more smooth

Straighted and buffed rear brake peg

Buffed clutch and brake levers
Replaced mirrors back to black tear drop shape

Painted black tank and debadged
Painted black headlight cover
Painted black front and back rims
Painted black left side rear wheel hub

Lettering on tyres painted white (I have imported a box of these these pens if you wish to purchase - $10 each plus postage)

Yeah, it would be mint... good point. The smoke std shape indicators were just a cheaper way of getting it back together given only one was damaged. Maybe something I could think about for later mods.

Lovely job Toaster, especially like the air intake, looks like it could suck a wig off a bald man at fifty paces. Top job. :apint:

At the risk of showing myself up as an ignoramus  wtf is a smooth shifter kit and where would you buy such a thing.

Again, really nice mate. :2thumbsup

It is a mod designed specifically for the M109R. I sourced it from Directline Parts (DLP) from the USA: https://www.directlineparts.com/product.asp?pid=8305&str=290&ID=425155143

The "star" is a slightly different size vs the OEM part and it makes the gear changes generally smoother.

Am guessing this is already on your favourites list,if not might be worth a look for custom indicators.http://www.xtremerevolution.com/Store/ss-85-8-suzuki-boulevard-m109r.aspx

Thanx mate. Interesting, didn't know there was such a thing.

If I was to be really critical about the pix............there does seem to be a distinct lack of (THE MITCH) :oi-grr:

Handling is good with the more grippy tyres, although it was raining when I rode it home on new rubber - I really need to take it for a good long hoon to see how she really does once they are worn in.

You should take one for a test ride mate and see how the C50 and M109R compared. There is always the C109RT for those with more traditional tastes and time for longer touring rides.

I prefer the wind in my face and bugs in my teeth personally.

Yeah, it certainly makes a standard one look boring.

I've got more chrome on its way to replace the final damage on the mufflers and it will be all sweet!

Toaster
3rd September 2008, 12:39
Had the final parts of the exhaust replaced today..... all crash damage now replaced. Just a noise test to go next Monday..... BOUND to fail! The new big air kit sucks in the air like no tomorrow and the rumble of the exhausts is warming to the heart... I am sure the highway coppers will be attracted to it like flies to shit.

Just a few positioning adjustments to make today and she is all good to go. But since it is a beautiful day I had a great spin up SH16.

The new smoother gear change sprocket was as smooth as a babies bottom, which is more than you could say for my bottom. Thru neutral still resembles that of a tractor transmission though.

The gears much improved with the new ignition timing kit and the Metz tyres were just fabulous in corners. The front 160 wasn't too bad around the bends either, it almost stands up on its own now with that and the 260 at the rear. Time for lunch and gear up to get back out there.

Goes like stink, makes me grin from ear to ear... and not a sheep in sight.

Great to hear you got out on it for a blat! You must be improving a bit?

Wotcha gonna do if'n it fails the noise test? On my ol' B31 BSA I had a gutted Dunstall megaphone and I stuffed chicken netting up it after a complaint and the nice local copper suggested I quiet it down. Didn't make a jot of difference, but I just throttled off when passing that person's house from then on...

Re the bike... I dunno.... maybe get custom inserts made - or replace the bike with something else. I am getting an itchy wallet again.

It was good to see the 9 back on the road T, my eye in the sky :-) tell me its handling well :-)
Yeah it was a bit of a bummer the tax collector was working hard to make his money, but running between 40k-60k a year on the road (bikes and cars) I expect to get robbed every now and again, well every10 years or so, its the laws of probability :-( but it didnt ruin a great day,
The silliest thing is that Peak Rd wasnt on my flight path, but last minute change when a 9 pulled up beside and gestured route change, shite happens as they say :-)

Hey Toaster. Can ya drop me a PM or email me. Would love to have a chat about the slip-ons. Can't get mine to fit properly.

Cheers

i did the work on Toasters bike , there is a way that the slip ons have to be fitted .
1 fit slip ons to new bracket place on bike, leave slip ons loose
2 fit pipe to slip ons
3 then rotate pipes to heads no not tighten yet
4 tighten mufflers in the place then tighten pipe to headers

but the clamps that come with the slip ons are shit try using some of the clamps from the old exhaust.
you can ring me on my work no 098325893 just ask for me bmz

have you welded the fitting for the o2 sensor to the rear pipe or have you removed them.

if you still have problem still with th rear pipe cut the old pipe below the o2 sensor , cut the rear pipe and weld in the old pipe . tack in place on the bike so you can get the right angle to the slip on, take off and weld and fit heat shields then fit back on bike follow steps 1-4

Yeah.... but the only problem is every time I try to move it or ride it, the wide tank causies me tremendous pain through my hip which them continues for days after. Not good! I still may need a "slimmer" bike if I am actually going to be able to ride as well as own a bike! Frustrating, but thats life I guess.

Bike looked mint today all polished up.
