6R test at AA Lower Hutt 28th August 2008

Well I have finally booked to sit my restricted...Its only taken me a year..LOL...Talk about procrastination. Booked online and wow it was fast, beats going in and waiting inline to book.

Any Hints from anyone who has used AA Lower Hutt? Things to concentrate on?

I have made the effort to get out a couple of times on the bike last week, but due to the horrific weather don't get out as much as I would like. Haven't got many kms on my new bike, nearly at 1000km. But I feel pretty confident and I am a careful driver.. Hopefully the weather will stay nice and I can get out and do some more practice before testing day. :)

you'll be fine kazza ... they are a good crew out there ... I think that they go down the back roads e.b. towards taita etc so that is 70 km max ... but dont' swear by it!! Good lucks chick!!!

You'll be fine. My tester was a lady who showed up about 20 mins late and was all apologetic. She checked my bike to make sure all the lights worked etc. Then she gave me an ear piece and a radio. The instructions were pretty simple - left, right, straight and stop and shake my head if I didn't hear the last command.
We were pretty short on time so it was literally one left turn, one roundabout, one give way, one stop sign and a u-turn.
Then she said, go back to station and I had no idea where I was :( I don't live in the Hutt, only work here so I had no clue where to go.
So I ended up following her back. She said she couldn't fault me and gave me my 6R.

Yeah I still class it as new, No scratches kept mainly in garage and with only 1000kms on the clock...LOL....

Just been out this afternoon for half an hour practicing U-Turns (figure of 8's), indicating, looking over shoulder then smoothly going round. A lot easier in a huge carpark with heaps of room, managed to go ok. Also practiced some hill starts as I am not very good at those. Only stalled a few times out of a dozen go's so not too bad.

Used AA lower Hutt for mine...

Have a read of this. may or may not help you. Test was piece of cake though. Earpiece and guy in car following. Don;t speed. Indicate. Head Check and Complete U turn without putting your foot down. All good..

I sat my 6R and my full today at Lower hutt, both times were a peice of cake. Guy followed me in his car and I had the earpiece, didn't even go above 70kms. Didn't do any figure 8's or any of that jazz.

He did pull me up about indicating far too late on most occasions, but I'm sure you won't have that problem.

Thanks guys. When doing the U-Turn do you do it in one smooth motion ie indicate left while pulling slightly over, indicate right, mirror and head check and then start going round. Or do you stop first on the left hand side of the road, indicate right, mirror and head check. Will the tester tell you which one they want you to do? Just thinking if you are doing a U Turn in a car park, would you stop first??

Could you hear him ok through the earpiece? I did my restricted bike licence this morning with the earpiece on and couldn't hear sweet fark all......

All the best for the 28th - you will ace it... just be confident.

From doing my test recently, here is what I observed... watch out for the STOP signs (put both feet down), keep the speed down, indicate early and - above all - HAVE FUN...
