At 316mph I'd guess it was the quarter. But blow me down, that's almost unbelieveable!

That's awesome!

Those motors sure are shoving out big horsepower these days - 7000+. The destructive power of those uncontained ponies when something lets go is brilliantly shown in the YouTube vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heiYovdw5Ws.

NHRA are running 1000 foot now for fuel cars, funnys and dragsters.
Its due to the death of Scott Kalitta and the lack of shut down area on some tracks.
Think its only temporary so far maybe untilled reviewed.
So it is impressive, but not 1/4.

Pro stock & all other classes are full 1/4.

1320 mate.

I should know, still got over 1000 time slips here from the Thunderpark days.:2thumbsup

The 1000 foot thing was a reaction to the recent crash of Kalitta who's death was attributed to the short run off area plus his car blew up too. The top drivers and teams were worried about the speeds when in trouble in a short run off area. They were running well over 330.

I saw a vid of the Kalitta crash. My impression was that he wouldn't have stopped, even with the longer shutdown area of some of the bigger tracks like Bakersfield. Was there ever an inquest into the cause?

You really need to grok Google Calculator (http://www.google.co.nz/search?hl=en&q=0.25+miles+in+feet&btnG=Google+Search&meta=), bro.

Probably, have'nt seen the outcome, but have'nt looked either.
Think he was knocked out by the force of the blowup and was a passenger there after to whatever happened.

Utter waste of times the 1,000 foot thing.

No safer and meaningless when it comes to times

As soon as I saw the 316mph speed for that e.t. I thought "1,000 foot".

Yep, utter bullshit and meaningless when it comes to records etc.
They say all the major blowups occurr in the period of 1000 and 1/4, which pretty well is true.............but.........kinda is stupid when the history and heritage is 1/4 mile.
And it destroys the spectacle.
Any racing is dangerous..........part of the deal:oi-grr:

2 months ago-ish.

Car exploded half way down the run and kept going into an embankment at near full tilt.

Kalittas are not having a good time at present - wasn't too long ago one of their cargo planes crashed as well
