So who's going?
I am really looking forward to a fantastic summer of riding, and what a way to start, I have never been to the Mad Magpie, who's been before?

Most defenintly...

Mad Magpie, first official rally of summer.

Errr the Pissed Pengiun at Kaka point is really classed as the first... then the matesmc rally and then the magpie, burt munroe, then the longdrop... KB Rally and I am sure I have missed a couple...

Yeah, the Pissed Pengiun is the 'first' of the season - but the Magpie is I feel the first 'summer' rally.

Both are good and a great place to catch up with KBers.:woohoo:

Look for the most dodgy, insane bunch there..

OR go to the north-western part of the Winchester A&P grounds - and THEN look for the most dodgy, insane, drunk, noisy bunch.
A ginga on a Guzzi with a flash knocked-up doris (if his spunk wasn't too watery)
A tassled Harley rider & his doris, both probably drining tequila.
A Oamaruvian twat with the flashest TLS bike you have ever seen and drinking Woodstock.
A bearded drongo with a worried look and a flash neoned blue bike and a tent the size of the Taj Mahal.

SHOULD all be nearby.

Pissed Penguine Kbr's, how to find them!

Go in the gate, head due West until you reach the fence, look over the fence (where everyone pees at night) and you will see a hammock!

Just pitch your tent East of the fence and you will be amongst most of the KB'rs. (stay close to the hammock, it's a once only night time experience. :zzzz:)

Just listen and you will soon hear them, then see them and next thing you will be among them! Problem solved. :niceone: John.

I am considering going - but I will decide last minute and pay the extra cost for the gate sale rather than book early. I will base my decision on the long range weather forecast probably on the Monday or Tuesday before the weekend in question. For me it would be a VERY long ride there & back as well as 2 ferry crossings, so for the time & money costs it is a bit much if I have to put up with crappy weather. Are any other bikers from the north heading down?

What time does everything kick off on the Friday? I couldn't see any mention of times on the website or entry form.

Also, what time does it finish on Sunday? Or do we all just crash out in our tents late Saturday (wee hours of Sunday morning) and just pack up and head out whenever we wake up on Sunday?

Friday afternoon you will be able to ride in and set your tent up,sunday is as you say whenever you wake up pretty much.Saturday afternoon is bike show/tatt show etc followed by tit show, bands and plenty of bourbon and bullshit.Oh and if needed theres a bit of a breakfast that can be purchased on site Sunday morning, bacon eggs etc, coffee free, remember to bring a mug.

OK, Thanks for the info.

I might head down to Wellington on Thursday and take the 6:15pm ferry across to Picton. I can camp somewhere that night and head into the Magpie Friday afternoon. Sunday I can probably be at Picton in time for the 6:05pm ferry. So I guess I just need to take Thursday, Friday & Monday off work.

I suppose I could head down to Christchurch on Thursday night and crash on a KiwiBiker's couch? Though It would be pretty late by the time I got there. Or maybe find a KiwiBiker between Picton & Christchurch with an available couch.

It looks like the current forecast is for there to be a big circle with an H in the middle of it to the left of NZ a week from now.

Well, I am a bit concerned about the forecast for Saturday (Thursday and Friday look GREAT!) but I think I will go regardless and hope for the best. I will pack tonight and tomorrow morning I will double check the weather forecast then leave nice and early. At this stage I will stick to my plan and cross the strait on the ferry around 6pm - I am not too sure if I will be able to push through to Christchurch Thursday night or stop near Blenheim to sleep and then go from there to Winchester Friday morning.

I can fit my tent, sleeping bag & bedroll under the seat on my scooter, though I might strap the sleeping bag to the tail bag and put some other stuff under the seat. My camera gear completely fills the top box, but I really want to take it to snap a bunch of pics on Saturday. This will be my first camping trip on the scooter - I hope I manage to take everything I need.

Blimey finally got home from the Magpie at 6pm tonight.

Firstly Happy Birthday Daleypoos, welcome to the Naughty 40 Club:wari::msn-wink:

Sorry didn't get to spend more time with you and Paula, blimey that rally is massive now eh, so eay to loose people when its dark.

Had a, ........really big piss up on Friday after arriving there very late, in fact saw the sun rise Sautrday, and finally crawled into bed at 610am, there were about 15 of us around the fire.

Never done that a rally before, and it was funny the next night, as everyone that stayed up had a chat and laugh about it.....something about watching the night turn into day.................:2thumbsup Met a funny guy from Christchurch called Chris, so knocked around with him on the Friday.

Dished out loads of posters for the Garstonian Rally on the Saturday afternoon (when I got up!!!!).What a great way to circulate too..........

Met a few new KBer's Evo11something or other, her chap and another couple of KBers' can't remember their name.

Saturday was less hectic on the booze front, but managed to jump and dance around like someone possessed but the beer was bit chewey by midnight, so didn't drink, after the witchin hour fearing the 5 hour drive the next day. C locked out at 2.10 when I couldnt stop yawning, for the first time I listened to the band from my tent............Fuck I am never doing an alnighter again, fun as it was, absoultely bushed later the next day

God the journey home was labourious, I could hardly see through my eyes, I was so tired, stopped 4 times for power :zzzz: with my feet up on the bike on the way back. Weather held up though, and by the time I got to Kawaru Gorge, I was revitalised and flew through there, (well quick for me anyway!!!)

All in all the rally was super duper, the bands were fab (very groovy blues band on Saturday, the guitarist came from Old Kent Road, London, alright Geezer!) and the main act was great too.

The organisation at that rally is fantastic, lots going on, great venue, loads of helpers and it ran like clockwork.

Thank you to the organisers of the Magpie Rally, you dudes are truly wonderful:2thumbsup.

See everyone at the Long Drop Rally.

Gnite all, I'm totally knacked:yawn:

The rally that now was. Winchester/Magpie...Via the back road through the windys to Fairly, filled the bike till it was Fairly full. And tootled off for a Pleasant lunch at Pleasant Point.

Off to the magpie, i kept an eye up above, as with experience, those black and white birds can cause pain to ones skull on impact. It seemed the place was vacant of magpies.
Tent up natter and drink. Was easlily talked into dining at the pub:done:, to hot to cook me own cans..
back and did the usual walk and chat about.
All the rest is now history, concerns about muslim donkeys led to many bows toward mecha????:shit:
Fire, marshmellows and seat stealing.
Then HOT brought out the T-killer... shot glasses lemon and salt.
This cant be bad... hit back a shot... igh.. yup that was tight.
Convinced by ?? use the salt and lemon combo...:shifty:(right)
Licked drunk and sucked... Mmm this aint workin to well... better stand up....:wari: ... take a walk..... :2guns: god damn... an earlier experience this year has left my body with a natural defence against straight fuels... :done:

Sung the birthday song to N-Hawk, then it was time to tuck off to bed for sleep.
I was semi suprised to wake to the sound of familer voices and sunlight, scurrying around my tent to find me specs to check the time...6.12am... shite...
Up and away was good, and grewat to be home with some day to go...
A little buggered now, but look forward to the upcoming KB Rally in a few weeks.:soon:

No tickets, no crashes, no fights, weatha was hot, fuckin awesome rally.

Sorta sums it up here too, a great way to start the summer rally season!!

Great company too except for the drunken pillock wandering around at about 5:30 onwards on Sunday morning - waffling on in a toothless and brainless way about all manner of shit he knew nothing about - and in a voice loud enough for most of the camp to hear his ignorance.

When an idiot says "I don't have a bike and I don't have a car - but I could get one if I saved" you know there's not going to be much depth of conversation eh!

But biggest turnout at Winchester yet, sheesh, if it gets much bigger we'll have to pre-book a spot to put our tent.
(Especially for the Xaria/Nighhawk'Taj-Mahal sized unit)

And leaving the site at 7:30 instead of 10:00+ was great, no traffic, weather just right and bugger-all bugs around.

Well I got home today just before 4pm, spent last night in Palmerston North.

I am SOOOO glad I took a punt on the weather despite the forecast - gale force winds & rain, pffft! It was only windy for an hour or two then calm, it was plenty warm enough and completely dry. The only rain I saw was today!

In total since I left Auckland Thursday morning I have travelled 2400kms - go the little scooter that could! I bought it about 3 months ago with 3950kms on the clock and now it has past 12000kms and I'll have to buy another oil filter and give it another service.

Epic trip, great rally, fantastic meeting a whole bunch of KB reprobates. One day I hope to completely block images of Scumdog in his gruds from my memory, but apart from that the rally was great! There is now plenty of photographic evidence of the wayward Helen Of Troy plying anyone with strong spirits that will take it, even attempting to corrupt the disabled!
I will have to sort some photos when I get a chance.

Due to the need to be home on Saturday, I was only able to be at the rally Friday nite. Easy to find camp KB with a number of the usual suspects and a few new faces. First time ever to be at the first nite of a 2-day rally. Good numbers there but easy to find a spot.

Good evening of fine dining, intelligent discussion and good company (not all lies)

Took off Saturday around 9am as it looked like the NW was brewing and not wanting to repeat the tacking into the wind experienced two week previous. Breeze a bit frisky on inland road around Mayfield but no probs. KB rabble passed just before Rakaia bridge - except one. Came across a riderless Guzzi idling on the side of the road at the Rakaia bridge. Helmet and gloves on the ground. That rider was in a hurry thought I. D appears shortly after talking about "taking photos". Euphemistic poetry.

Couple of photos - the Raspberry tart and the GS twins.

Sorry not to stay for the whole rally. Roll on KB3

Hope this helps some.

Scummy in his Y front longjohns was even more traumatic:blank:
My friend in the chair is easily corrupted lol!!

But I must say I'm getting a little worried about Helen, looks like she's turning into right old booze hag:laugh:
