hey I was just wondering if it was ok to use polyester resin to repair original plastics, or will it melt/ weaken them? would I be better off using epoxy? I'm more experienced in poly and have all the gear to do it, just wondering if it's possible tho

From my experiendce, fiberglass doesn't bond with plastic and can sometimes melt it yes. Of course that's from repairing windsurfers not motorbike fairings, but I assume it's all the same stuff...

If you have carbon fibre fairings then glass away, otherwise you'll need to plastic weld them.

Worked for me some time back, fixing up an old bike.
That was epoxy resin w/o glass cloth though.
