Pesonly I use BMT image host, doesn't cost any thing, just register with them and start uploading photos.
They have a function which downsizes photos so they can be embedded in forum posts, just copy the apropriate(?) box and paste into your post.
Not sure what other use they are, but it servs my puporse ( all personal photos are stored on ext. h.d.
Don't know if it's safe but I havn't had any wierd e-mails telling me I could share in 100,000,000,000,000 zimbabwe rupees if I respond, Also I wouldn't put any incriminating shots of a personal nature on it(even if I had any)

Thats the thing, I'd like to store my personal photos but only allow certain people to access certain photos - family, selling things, naked sedish lesbian air hostesses etc.
And videos - can you upload those?

I use photobucket, free, seems to work OK. I only use it for hosting images that I want to display on forums, no public access to mine, but I they have options for displaying pics to all or a select few if you want. They do vids too I think.

Yep, I use photobucket, too. Tried a couple of others, this seems to be one of the best-rated free sites. It lets you make slide shows of your photos, and upload direct from your PC via 'publish to web'. However if I wanted to use the site as my photo archive (ie permanent safe storage) I would have no hesitation in using SmugMug, which is owned & run by Baldy, site owner of advrider.com. He set up smugmug because there wasn't a satisfactory image hosting service available.
Most of the sites allow you to set permissions for sharing and browsing. But I think you can override that by using the direct link. ie if you post a direct link to an image in a protected folder, it will display to anyone who accesses the link. Some also allow you to store non-image file types.
Define safe. Smugmug is a commercial organisation running a commercial service. Other free sites have done things like delete old photos, lose everything due to server crash with no backups, shut down because they were losing money, etc, etc. Some of these activities are permitted via their T&C.

Smugmug is easy to use.
Mines oscar.smugmug.com.
I also use it because it's owned by the guy who runs ADVRider (you don't have to have a smugmug site to upload there, btw - you can link from anywhere).
Unlimited upload and high bandwidth - URL: http://www.smugmug.comUS$39.95 per year.
Put this code in the "reffered by" field and get five bucks off: FTVrcpokpq0vg

I find Photobucket fine for me, as I have all my own backups of my photos and videos.
