View Full Version : Kiwibike Insurance - the good guys

Well after many many months of riding round with no insurance and probably prompted (to be honest) by one of the shittiest winters I can remember I decided to go get some insurance today.

Rung round a few places and their attitude pissed me off right from the get go so resulted in moving to the next one.

Rung Dave at kiwibike and am very impressed with how easy he made things work out - even though there was a few leaps we had to take.

Had a really good policy worked out but as it turned out my encounters with :Police: and lack of radar detector (or responsible riding) meant they wouldnt cover me. About 2 seconds later Dave had sorted out more suitable insurance that would cover me and 5 mins after that it is all sorted.

Lets hope I dont have to write a report on what their claims dept is like.

Plus one for Dave and the crew, they told me they could get cover for me no worries(dic in 2000),just had to find out if one company would insure the bike as they didn't take bikes 20yrs old(was 19yrs at time),but if company 1 didn't company 2 would albeit at another $95 per year dearer. And they have a track cover on my policy which if your keen means a quick call and covered.Mind you I am the only rider, but can add others, seems good and most here are happy with claims procedure.

I found them pretty good too cowboyz, but my Mrs was able to save me nearly $300 in premiums. so I became her first bike customer. I also became her first bike claim and I must say it was flawless. It's a pity the same couldn't be said about my gear claim with AMI. Treated like criminal's although they ended up with egg on their face at claim conclusion and now I've just received a threat letter.

I second all of the above.

Poor Dave probably hopes he won't be hearing from me again for a while, though.

(Oh, yeah, their claims handling is bloody awesome.)

+2 for ease of getting it all sorted with Dave and co !
One call did it all ! Though they might not be the cheapest, it makes for a happy camper if there aint no stress !~
Covered for track days too if ya let Dave know with plenty of warning, so he can check with the insurers !

May have gone a bit overboard with my cover ! As the policy holder with three bikes covered i could have saved prolly 5 spot a year by only doing H's scorp 3rd party and covering both triples for one rider !
But at the time i was thinking of letting a few mates use one (not realising none had a licence rrrrr) And then only being covered for a month prior to walking for 3 sheeesh !
Still summers coming and the scorps been out twice in the last month with mates doing the full licence trip ! Almost hesitant to trade the 900 on H's next bike now lol, still a speedmaster would be fun to have lying round for the odd tour (even if it aint what she really wants lol)

Yer KiwiBike Insurance are awesome ta deal with. Dave understands biking. Make sure ya give him ya histroy so there are not nasty surprises when ya put in a claim. It also makes Dave's job easier ta hammer out a good deal for ya with the Insurance Companies he deals with.

Im currently with state - just cos thats where all of our policies are (house, car etc) what are kiwibike like price wise compared with the likes of State etc? We had a second car and a 250cc m/bike which were costing us in total $58/month to cover... we sold both and got me the 800cc Boulevard and its costing $60/month to cover... I had expected my ins costs to go down, not up :shit:

I know the higher the CC rating the more expensive but I expected more expensive than the 250cc, not the 250cc AND a car!

He sorted my work Van with Protecta and the Bike with Swann. The Van through Dave was by far a better deal than I could sort on my own. This is they Web Site: KiwiBike Insurance (http://www.kiwibike.co.nz/) . The phone No. is on the front page. Give him a ring.

Both yearly and third party...Both using the online quoting system.

Never had a problem with state (got everything else with them) so for under half the price I'll stick with them...when I get my next bike I'll prob spend the extra and go thru kiwibike as track day insurance sounds good to me...but the misses wont be using it on a track so no need.

Thats what the website quoted me...if they have it incorrect on there site they are losing business because of it.

Yeah, Third Party, price is yearly

Might have to get on to him re that then !
Just pulled my paperwork out and it dosen't break it down but i'm pretty sure (dont quote me here as my second name is Alf symers) it was under the 100 mark for third party on H's 225 scorp !
Though i opted for full cover (which i shouldnt have, but its all gonna change soon with a bike change for H)

Hmmm, something funny going on then...perhaps I should have rang him...to late now tho as I got it through state about 10 mins ago.

I'd have definatly gone through KiwiBike even if it was just a little more, I like to support bike specialist companies....but when its over double...I have to move along.

your getting a raw deal mate, in the same boat but I don't pay that much per month for the bike! maybe it's the extra 200cc youv'e got?even though your on a cruiser and mines a sports bike.....you'd think they'd consider that sort of thing....

Yeah i have to agree with kiwibike, great service and great price.

all other companies i checked out i was looking at at least $1000 premium as im on my learner's still and under 25,

however with kiwibike i got full coverage for just under $600 (excluding gear) including roadside assistance.

ps. the bike i insured is my Suzuki Vl250 cruiser (brand new - pick it up on thursday - cant wait!)

i signed up for this instantly online, and when i called them up just now (haven't recieved DD forms yet) - i spoke with dave who sorted that out (adv. me they were sent on friday - i was just being impatient haha)

so yeah, top points for Kiwibike.

The 9 works out to $37/month for $5500 cover. First quote was for about $270 per year but you have to be ticket free for 5 years (that just anit gonna happen) and have it stored in a locked garage (got no garage). The second quote was between the 2 and didnt worry about the tickets but wanted the bike in a locked garage.

So Kiwibike will give you a discount if you have a detector...?

I think it is plain silly that tickets come into it. If I crash my bike at 100km/hr it is going to cost the insurance compnay the same ammount as if I crashed at 112km/hr.
I had a argument with the car insurer when they packed a sad about my demerit points and I told tehm that I am insuring for accidents not for speeding tickets but if they want to cover my speeding tickets then thats fine.
She spouted about how if I get lots of speeding tickets then I am higher risk because I have more chance of crashing.
I told her to check my history. Oh, 10 years claim free you say? That blows your theory out the window doesnt it?

unfortunately insurance companies dont give a crap about the fact that you as an individual havent had any claims or crashes in the last 10 years. They only care about statistics.

my premium is more than twice yours for a 250cc 6 grand bike, because i fit in the age bracket of 18-25 - naturally im never gonna ride my bike when im actually sober because the statistical majority of drunk driving incidents involve 18-25 year old males...

fuck statistics i hardly ever drink let alone get drunk, thats not my scene - the big wigs dont care though, they are all about the deniros - theirs, not ours.

Try getting insurance when about 24yr old for a Ford Fairmont, soon as she/he said 6 or 8cyl look out.The couple of companies didn't care no license loss or crashes just fact I was under 25,wife was turning 25 the next week so she was main holder,my excess was $750 hers $250.They couldn't answer my reply that when I turned 25 in 13months or so,did that mean I was more mature then.

Think they quoted me $22mth last renewal (was pay annually year previous)and value about $3500.

Outstandingly good!

..what are kiwibike like price wise compared with the likes of State etc? !
State insurance is offensive to deal with to say the very least!
I've never been treated like such a criminal even when I was one...serious!
The accident in which I made the claim was shown by the Police to be road surface related and not rider error yet State made it as painful as possible and the whole claim took nearly 3 months to finalise.
Wankers...serious!

after just over a week i hadnt had a reply i emailed them and got some excuse about being away or something, a week later the quote arrived. gave me the feeling that if it takes that long for a quote how long would a claim take??

Yep- nice folk but not too good on the email responses. I'm waiting for a reply to a simple question- and before you ask why not phone- emailing is free, and it suits my hours better than phone calls, plus there's a trail of who said what. My view is that if you are unable to service a facility properly (e.g. email) then don't offer it.

Ha! 2nd insurance claim on a vehicle...EVER!
Excess is $500.00 on the road for either myself or my nominated rider....$1000.00 for someone else with a full liciense.
This is for the Bleck Duc which I have insured for $42,000 so IMFO it's BLOODY GOOD!

BTW...I'm covered at any of the MottoTT trackdays!

after reading this thread (and seeing the ad at the top of the page) I checked out kiwibike insurance. Their new online signup instantly provided interim cover for my new/first bike for 14 days. full cover for me in spite of my noobness and the bike not being garaged (tho i have a great cover) is just $355 a year - incl GST, which they don't mention in the initial quote. My excess is $500.
I signed up on sunday night, the email was instant of course and by Wednesday the papers were in the letterbox. That's pretty damn quick.

All up it's cheaper than the full cover I had on my last car 2 years ago, after 5 years of no claims bonuses (60%) and that was garaged.
I can only forsee it getting cheaper as I rack up a history.
So far I'd have to give them a big thumbs up.
