I just came across these two images in my vast collection of photos.
I took them one day as an experiment with a 35mm panorama pinhole camera. Exposures were in the order of 6-20 seconds.
From a standstill I opened the shutter and then took off on my KTM as the image was made.
Obviously I was going a bit faster in one than in the other :devil2:
I know many have taken video but has anyone else sho9t interesting still images while riding their bike?

Very cool. That first pic is an almost perfect visualisation of what I see when I'm riding (tunnel vision - only not in b & w).

idleidolidyll thats a very good shot with good effect I might use that idea for a "project" im working on. There is a sight called photosig.com thats basically a post and rate site. There is some talented photographers on there that will give you ratings on your foto and also give you hints on what to change. Its not all about bikes just any foto's go have a look on there for some more ideas

Im just being cheeky
Most good point and click cameras have that ability (well at least the new once) but you can spends alot of money on gear and then have the problem on how to mount them. Go have a look at some of the sony camera they tend to have shutter speed settings you can set

hah all good. yeh i tend to spend more money on cellphones than cameras, just bought a $600 dealy (obviously its AWESOME)..so a camera may come into play sometime.
need a bike to mount it to first..

Thanks for the thought.
To be honest though, I don't go to those sites much. I've been a photographer for many many years and ran a studio in Chch. I've also taught photography in a couple of places.
I like to show people my pics but I'm not interested in ratings.
The image is a back to basics shot. just a piece of film in a box with a tiny hole in the front and a bit of black sticky tape over the hole until needed.
exposure is by guesswork mostly but experience makes the guess more accurate.
I also have a custom made 5x4" pinhole camera with film backs. That one is a lot sharper but still as basic as it gets.
Long live film! Long live lensless imaging!
again though, I appreciate the sentiment.

I think the camera shop on K Rd in Auckland sells pinholes.
Auckland cameras on New Nth Rd also used to.
Best though is to google pinhole cameras and make your own in half an hour.

The other way to go is to buy an old crappy plastic camera off TardMe, remove the lens and glue a brass pinhole over it.
That way you can load a roll of film (120 is best) and you have a shutter release.
All up $25 or so.
I'm happy to help anyone who is keen

Here's what you can do with a 5x4" pinhole camera:
5x4 Velvia film
30mm focal length
0.2mm pinhole
in the morning off the pier at Ammunition Bay, Sth Auckland
maybe 1 minute exposure
the other 2 are bike shots taken with the 5x4.
i only include them 'cause the mods would whack points on me if I didn't

that was on a long straight piece of tarmac; closed road of course.................
standing start to as fast as the bike would go then close the shutter.

If film wasnt so expensive i would only shoot on film. It gives better "feedback" if you know what i mean

That first photo is very very good I can only dream about taking shots like that. I suck at scenic photo's. Macro is more my thing ..... but thats only cause i get good results

Yep, I shoot digital for photo contracts because its cheap and convenient but for 'art and soul', I still love shooting film.
In fact I have a fridge full of hundreds of rolls and process both B&W plus colour slide at home.
You still can't beat a 5x4 tranny for impact

ummmm, the one where you can make out signposts etc was started in Tuakau and not any great speed as I took off.
the 2nd one was at completely illegal speeds had it been on a public road. i'm not exactly sure but possibly more than double the arbitrary open road speed

i think the first E6 i processed was in the late 1970's.
I definitely processed my first cibachrome print in about 1977.
it's way easier now with chemistry like the tetanal 3 bath etc.
anyway, $8 per 5x4 tranny is silly! i might shoot 20 of those in an outing.
as it's from the pinhole and not for a commission, it doesn't matter if there's a little colour shift or contrast increase etc.
BTW: I use a temerature controlled Jobo CP2 drum processor; makes it a cinch to reproduce results.

Wow - I am genuinely impressed. Transparency processing has always seemed a bit of a dark art to me.
I develop my own MF film. But I mainly shoot on Tri-X so I don't need a darkroom and the film chemistry is pretty simple.
