Not really a joke but more of a warning for those complacent enough to open links from unknown sources !

Was quietly nosing around through here around 8 30 yesterday morning when i recieved an email from ecard.org saying someone had sent me an ecard !
Well i thought to myself, haha who's found a new toy to play with (large mail contact list so could be anyone) Get on average 4 or 5 emails a day with jokes !
So i go blindly in and open the link, lol knew i'd fucked up within 30 seconds and started closing everything down, disconnecting the nett(in case whatever i had introduced took over my mail list and infected 30 others) not a good look !
Truth be known it was prolly one of those on my list who had sent me this one !
Well talk about fucked up trev haha blue screen of death flashing in and out pc shuttin down during scans and having to restart all the time ! (sure it's artificial intell.)
My Avg spyware couldn't pick it up, Avg antivirus never found it !
Adaware found 3 malware and 3 trojans but when i tried to remove them it couldn't and just seized the pc again !
Was all but resigned to the fact i was gonna have to spend a day formatting and rebooting the hard drive !
But thought just one more, so downloaded spybot to give that a shot as sometimes if you bring a new one in after the infection they find them !
Glad i did ! 11 pm last night i finally caught the bloody trojans and would recomend spybot, as it tells you a description of the infection, one of them, the virtumonde trojan is apparently hard to remove and spybot gives ya step by step inst. how to delete it from the pc !

Cant wait to hear from someone on my mail list that their pc crashed ! Might just send them another gift !!! (cant blame no one here lol grrrr talk about dumb trev)

Yeah was starting to stamp me feet a bit !
Had downloaded microsofts malicious software remover which even had the virtumonde trojan on its list that it will remove (but only if its active) and that never found that one !
I'm sure they know they being hunted and hide lol bloody things

A good solution is to use Firefox and download an addon called 'noscript' - stops websites from being able to run javascript etc (which is how they download the files) - of course you can whitelist sites that you go to often so that the safe scripts can be run... flash videos etc.

I've run this setup for the last year or so and haven't looked back..

Virtumonde is a prick of a thing. I used a combination of Spybot, Avast, Virtumondobegone, VundoFix and tools from MalwareBytes (http://www.malwarebytes.org/) to rid my kid's pc of it. It seemed to be gone then a few minutes later things would slow down again (you'd notice menus opening slowly and sluggish performance). Using Safe Mode without net access helped to clear it out.

I'd recommend Avast as a better AV than AVG too. AVG seems to have become bloated and less useful than it used to be.

Glad you got it cleaned up.

I wish ! Thought i had deleted it yesterday but All sorts of system changes going on here , random startups in the middle of shit grrrrrrr Running scans constantly to delete the spyware its bringing in. And spybot caught virtumonde again last night so it cant be being deleted !
Avg picked up 7 threats in its overnight scheduled scan , all downloader agents and healed em , doing another spybot now as my screensaver has come up with a bloody great Warning again (well thats been coming up since i first got the thing !

I know i should cut the nett off but that be like steeling a babies pacifier !

Edit : well thats a bling to you Matt !
Just downloaded malwarebytes and ran it straight after spybot picked up a virtumonde trojan again .
32 infections it found and cleaned, 22 regestry keys infected, 1 folder, 5 files and 4 more trojans, couple of them being virtumonde !
That virtumonde is a bastard cause it copies itself through yr system grrrr fingers crossed i got it this time !
More fun than a merry go round !
