An American motorcycle builder who accepted cash from New Zealand customers shortly before filing for bankruptcy is to be prosecuted for fraud involving nearly USD 1 million.
A lawsuit has been brought on behalf of some 40 customers who paid Mid-West Choppers and its owner, Chip Miyler, USD 1.2 million for customised bikes but did not receive them before it went bankrupt in 2005. According to the indictment, Miyler, 40, defrauded 25 customers out of USD 900,000.
Miyler faces nine counts of fraud in the US District Court. Miyler also applied for a bank loan but offered as collateral motorcycles he did not own.
