Isn't it odd that Japan couldn't aid in saving the baby Humpback. With all their scientific research, you'd think they'd have all the answers!

I suppose they could have removed it's jawbone to check if it was alive or not

I don't like the Japs approach, however, research is normally about migration patterns and how they communicate, not how to save an ill whale

That would require a giant tit, and Pammy Anderson wasn't in town

Fair enough if you could go down to the corner dairy and get a few litres of full cream whale. I did notice that a guy had turned up with 6 litres of trim milk but I seriously doubt that there is anything available that would be suitable, even if there was a way to deliver it successfuly.

I imagine you’re right Oakie and it would probably always end with tears. I just thought the Japanese could have offered assistance with their vast knowledge of whales and perhaps a support research vessel (with onboard whale defibrillator) in case things turned bad.

Even if they did manage to keep it alive it would be dependant on humans for the rest of its life. The people feeding it would be extremely screwed once it can't drink milk anymore.
What happened was sad but the only sensible to do.

Wonder if it will be served up in school cafes as it is in Japan.

What is that beer name again???? "Yeah right..." Ummm... no... that's not the name..... Ummmmmmmmm........
"Research" is about where to find them next time because there are lots to get for the sushi... and how they taste when aged 1, 2, 3, 5, 10 etc etc...
How they communicate....?? "Fuck that hurt!" is my guess at what they say, as the exploding harpoon enters, perhaps????
"Research" is just the legal loophole so they can hunt food.
Island nations such as Niue, Tonga and the like receive many $$$ in Aid money from Japan. Very cunning move on Japans part, as guess who these island nations vote for, when the whale hunt discussion on banning and removing this loop hole crops up again and again?
My 5c worth.... But back to the topic now....

The eco-pricks were probably busy researching the dying baby's Mother.
I actually have a copy of the completed Research document that they intend to release in a decade.
It states;
After decades of killing adult whales we can confirm categorically, without question, that the whales we killed ceased to produce offspring, and now we can't find any more, anywhere to research, why is that?

100 cows got swept down a river here in Canterbury during the last flooding. I don't see anyone crying their eyes out about them.
100 cows, that's a lot of wasted burgers...

yeah that is sad about the cows but it's not like someone deliberately herded them to their deaths to "research" their swimming ability...

Nah, true enough. I agree, the Japanese should stop with their lame excuses about research and just say "We eat the fuckers, get over it!"
But of course, the diplomatic scene can be very PC sometimes and if the Japs say it's research it would of course be bad form to cry "Bullshit"...
Mind you cows are deliberately hearded to their deaths to be eaten and made into motorcycling gear...

The whale was screwed basically, it wasn't sick just hungry.
The only thing they could have done was feed it.

I do believe this happened in Sydney, and that Australian animal welfare types basically said that the whale was a goner. There is no practical way that you can feed a Humpback calf. Even if you could, what do you do with it when it grows.
I think the Japanese have concluded that they like eating whalemeat. Oh, were you being sarcastic.

Highlighted the only flaw in the statement... "claim."
They didn't offer because they had nothing to offer... and as it was little, it would only feed a few....

Sure couldn't... there is nothing left of it at Matauri Bay.
To be sure though, the little 'un was buggered. Not much anyone could do.
