My bike just died, can anybody tell me why?

Rode down to the bottom of our hill, stopped for traffic and when I went to ride off the bike died :argh:
At first I thought I had stalled it :Oops: but when I went to restart....nothing :argh:

I pushed it off to the side of the road and checked all the usual, Kill switch, fuses (the fan fuse was blown so replaced, pretty sure this is unrelated), fuel, lights and neutral light comes on so all seemed ok, but when I push the starter it makes a funny whirring noise, it was not even trying to turn over.

Pushed her around the corner to the petrol station, grabbed the manual which talked about a main fuse located in the Starter Magnetic Switch. Thought this might have blown so pulled of the side cover and checked, but the fuse is ok.

While the side cover was off it was obvious the whirring noise was coming from the Starter Magnetic Switch, so I am guessing this is the cause of the problem.

Can anybody enlighten me.

sounds like a cooked battery, or a loose battery wire, if there is a bad conection they will do that....so i have herd i dont have problems with my Yamaha :bleh: :bleh: :Pokey: did you try push starting it?

I had a brief push start attempt, but no luck.
If it was a bad battery wouldn't the lights not work?

My old CBR400 cooked the regulator then the battery, the lights and all still wrkd just not enough juce to turn over the bike....new reg and new battery and the bike was all sorted :niceone:

You better off just taking it to white trashes bike shop in wellington and let them have a look at it.

Sound's electrical. Damned Hondas. Were you parked up at BP Newlands? Saw a CBR being looked at while I was out for a walk about 8.30 last night.

thats funny. Today My FXR150 blew up a puff of smoke from under the seat where the battery is when i tried to start it this morning!

Unsure why cos its been all fine before. I removed the battery, checked wiring, and all seemed ok. Put the battery back in and started her up again by kick start as the battery wouldn't do it. No problem after that.

Could it be a regulator being fried? Will need to inspect it closer in the weekend.

Did you double, triple and then quadrupile check the kill switch?

On a side note...can you tell me where the fan fuse is? I assume it's under that little cover on the right hand side under the right hand clip-on.

Sorted now, some wires overheated and shorted out. Not sure how so I will have to keep an eye on the battery (it was not charging)

Yes, the fan fuse is where you described. Under the cover is a little fuse box. Inside the box are 4 fuses (plus 2 spares) The fuse closest to the fuel tank is the fan fuse. There should be a picture under the fuse box lid that shows what each fuse is.

Good to see that it's sorted mate. Keep an eye on your battery if you're having charging problems though.

Wave if you see a blue GS500 riding around the Newlands/Paparangi/J'ville area. The hands are almost back to normal and it's time to hit the roads (but obviously not literally).

That's good news...I decided after posting this last night to stop being lazy and to have a look for myself...sure enough...fuse was broken.

PS...I'm in Woodridge, so if I see either a blue GS500 or a CBR600, I'll wave!
