I thought they looked good too.

Until I saw them in the flesh

The motor is the same air/oil cooled two valve as the SS range. Well known with not too many vices.

Me, I'd rather have a HyperRetard

Just my $0.02

I've seen that show on descovery, I think it was called "The twist of the throttle", and they have been testing this bike. They liked it ALOT.

Oh actually here you go, http://turbo.discovery.com/twist-the-throttle/twist-the-throttle.html

You can watch the whole show online.

They're fuckin' beautiful (in the flesh too, IMHO). I'd love one purely based on looks.

Haven't ridden a Sport 1000, but I've ridden that engine in the Multistrada and liked it. Seat-of-pants-o-meter said 75 ish hp at the wheel.

Me, I'd rather have a HyperRetard

I'd rather have a Multistrada 1100.

Effectively an identical bike to the HyperRetard where it matters, but plus comfy seat for rider and pillion, plus useful tank range and plus optional factory hard luggage.

(And, presumably, immune to theft due to being ugly enough to make the average criminal run screaming into the night.)

They reckon they are about 90hp.

one thing I want to know is how do u stop ur jacket scratching the tank? With the super aggressive reach to the bars? Don't say tank pad - they simply don't work.

Also I cant seem to find a review on it in terms of gas mileage and performance and handling. all the reviews just wank on about the looks and then say "the handling is good"

I have a Ducati MH900 arriving at my place in the next couple of days... sorta the same but not really, I'll let you know how it rides, and how much of hassle it is to dissasemble it.

Can someone tell me please, does the 1000 stand for NZ or US dollars paid per service?

There's been one siting in Casbolts all year.

looks really nice - I personally do not like the pipes on one side - one on each would be more in line with the period look. Plus the seat is very wide.

Note the modern spec tyres with a old Pirelli tread pattern - very cool and brings a smile to anyone over 40 who has been into bikes.

They're cheaper to run than a K3.

Sorry, don't like them......wouldn't keep one if someone gave it to me. The original 750 Sport on the other hand is gorgeous.:innocent:

I'd have one although my preference would be the ss1000ds.

The engine is shared by a few models in the Ducati range - it's the latest incarnation of the Desmodue engine.

I think it's about 93hp with around 90 Newton metres of torque. Makes for some good fun in the twisties but it really is a poseur's bike all about looks...and I have to admit I think it looks really nice.

Fuel economy should be good at lower revs - the flat torque curve means it will haul arse without having to scream. Redline the bastard and burn $$$ like any bike. Maintenence is every 12,000km with Major Service at 24,000 (Belts'n'stuff). The big services are not that expensive. I had belts and shims done on my Desmodue at Haldanes and it was alot less than a grand trust me.

I'd rather pay for a Ducati Desmodue service than a Honda one.

Get a jacket without scratchy bits sticking out the front?

Book a test ride on one. Make sure you pick it up with a full tank. Do a decent 100km or so of riding in your own inimitable style. Then fill the tank back up yourself and note how many litres of gas you used.

you can test ride a bike for 100km?!?!?!

Of course.

I usually take bikes on test rides up the northern motorway, along Coatesville-Riverhead, up Old North and Peak to cow cop, turn around and come back the same way - that's about 100km all up. Bit more, maybe. It's good to use the same route all the time, because the differences between bikes become more obvious.

I've never had a shop that's given me grief about disappearing for a couple of hours with a bike. If you're thinking about buying something, you gotta ride it enough to figure out whether you like it, after all!

you're quite right. only colemans and the suzi dealer (somthing about suzi's?) let me take the bike for about an hour. Every other dealer said "10 or 15 mins" maybe its somthing to do with my age?

how on earth can you test a bike in 15 mins. Ripoff barren are the worst at test rides.

didn't quite click to test the gas economy during the test cheers! and that route sounds like a pretty damn good one, its got everything, suburban, motorway and twists!

Tank pads are the schizz, you've just gotta buy the right one. Basically you get what you pay for. One thing with Ducati's there is definitely no shortage of accesories available and I can guarantee you'll find a lovely carbon fibre tank pad from one of a plethora of manufacturers to do the job.
