Isn't it amazing how easily some major life decisions can be?
After just over a year of seeing The Man and living 1.5hrs ride apart, and various discussions about him moving over here & getting a new job, it turns out that I'm moving over there. :gob:
After a particularly horrible day at work yesterday, and with a "Self Assessment" section of my yearly "Performance Review" to fill out, I filled it out!
Goals for Lisa's future:
No more shiftwork
No more weekend work
Move to Te Puke and get a life - preferably a stress-free one!!!
Which I put on my managers desk yesterday for his entertainment on his return to work this morning. :sly:
Despite the fact that The Man and I are on about the same hourly rate, I make much more money due to shift allowances/compensations and a yearly bonus. Which is why he was going to move over here. But after 8 years, I'm finally and thoroughly sick of the shiftwork and the tensions it places on my life. And my life is what it's all about, right?
So the money's not what it's all about now. That new Triumph might not be part of my future this year (drat! ) but my living expenses will be greatly reduced by moving in with The Man, so a huge salary is not such a big priority for me now.
What a relief! Now I just have to tell Mum that I'm moving out of town again (she'll be happy for me, I'm sure). And I won't be starting looking for a job in The Bay until I get back from my March holiday, so it's no stress until then.
So here's to making the right decision for you & following it through. Have a beverage on me to celebrate. :apint:

Hey Lisa - well done!... Glad to see that you and The Man are cool, and that you have got some good goals ahead of you. After 8months of bitching about my job, I did almost exactly what you did... Great isn't it! I start my new job on the 14th Feb, with a little more money in the pocket, and a little more free time to do what I want.... Coolness!
Have a frosty beverage for me too!

Congratulations....
You say that money is not what its about now.... although it can make life a little easier, happiness never comes from money. If everything else fits and your quality of life will improve over all and you are happy together, I say absolutely great... good for you. I wish you all the very best!!!

Oi! That was a "might" on the "no new bike" thing, so don't think this doesn't mean you shouldn't still be checking things out with the *@#&$* Truimph importer for me. :D

I'm not sure what's going to happen, NinjaBoy. Moving is at least 3 months away, so if you spot a bargain, you'd better just grab it, eh?
Celtic - it's absolutely not a sacrifice at all. :) It's an opportunity that I'm grabbing. :2thumbsup
Avgas - never worked for Westpac, m8. Telecom/Alcatel for the last 9.5 years.
Hitcher - this isn't the first time I've made a big move for lifestyle/family reasons. And last time everything fell into place so easily and it was obviously meant to be. :D
Thanks for the well wishes & warm thoughts peeps. I just had to share such a great moment. :D

You've done the hard part, so it's all good :) A little while back I was really unhappy at work, and needed to leave for my sanity. I stuck it out (wages were too good to leave) and it turns out things are getting better (for the moment, at my work things can change at the drop of a hat). So I'm glad I stayed. BUT, I've only been there for just over 2 years, so after 9.5 years I think you're pretty safe in making your decision. And of course, you are moving to a partner

I've taken the view these days I need the time more than the last few dollars these days. I changed jobs in 2003 and made sure I took a 7 week break between jobs (I tried for 2 months but my new boss wanted me quicker) and insisted on a decent Xmas holiday so took 6 weeks last year. Then I had a week in Sydney later in the year besides a few work trips. This Xmas break I'm having 4 weeks off, that's why I'm still at home, and in April I'm having another 2 weeks holiday in Australia. Some of it ends up being leave without pay, but what the hell. My last kid (daughter) has just finished school so both mine will be at Uni next year and we figure its time we had a bit of a change and some more freedom and time for ourselves.

Good on you for doing what'll make you happier. Life's too short to be sitting around working for someone else and not doing your own thing.
I just handed my resignation in this morning too!

Don't worry man, I'm a tight arse so we don't change our bikes too quickly anyway, but then we are impulsive buyers all the same and I'm already a pensioner so some money rolls in no matter what.
As for Slim, all the best, do what feels right for you.
Mr Melon have you got another job lined up?

Thanks for all the good wishes, and it's nice knowing I'm not the only one who's gone down this path, and successfully too by the sounds of it.
I told Mum & Dad last night and while they're not happy that I'm moving out of town again, they're proud and happy that I've made the decision and am so happy & positive about it. :) My sister-in-law has just told me that she's looking forward to the House Warming party in Te Puke! :sweatdrop
Trash - any word from the Triumph Importers?!?? Hope you're not slacking off on my behalf! ;)
