Auckland Rider Training - April/May

Hi there,

I'd like to get some rider training organised. I'd like to get all aspects of riding that would make someone a better rider covered.

Braking
Cornering
Counter Steering
Emergency procedures - Recovering from certain situations
High Speed riding
Etc
Etc

Would it be cheaper to hire Pukekohe? Cos if we go to Taupo there is the extra time off needed and the cost of accomodation, petrol, etc

I may approach Brian Parker at Pass Rite or John or someone else ......... or can someone recommend someone else/better? I only know these two people.

We should look at around 5-6 hours of training and some laps after that for some fun.

But the emphasis will be on learning, meaning that this would suit newer riders than those who set lap records.

I'm shooting for sometime in about 3 months........... April or early May.

What do you think?

How much does Pukekohe cost for a day? Maybe we can find an open day in the future and fill it with KB'ers?

I've never done anything like this or have a clue on how to do it so all advice appreciated.

I think KB rides show far more than just basic riding.... Im keen, Taupo is far cheaper (only like $600 for a weekday) where Pukekohe is Farken expensive...

I should be along to that ride on Sunday (hopefully) so we will see...

Isn't Taupo a tight track to be learning on ? Never been on it myself but it looks that way from the stands. :unsure:

Nup Taupo is great, the tighter the better... Plus it doesnt have scary 200kmh blind corners that Pukekohe has :crazy:

John does the "Ride Right, Ride Safe" bike course out at Whenuapai airbase on the runway..... was about about $45 a day for the course.. its run once a month I think.
Which, I might add is a great course....

As to April/May I wont be in at all.... thats when I am off the bike for 8 weeks..... and won't be travelling far from my house during that time.

I believe Pukekohe is $2000+ a day whereas Taupo is only $550.

Taupo 550-600 a day = what? 20 riders paying $30, plus another $100+ each for petrol, accomodation and lost time from the extra day that will be needed.

So Pukekohe may be cheaper.

But since this experience is all about learning maybe we should think about Taupo.

And guys and girls the April/May period comprises of 61 days so we should try and be able to find one where we can all agree?

Also by then all of us will have gotten 3 months of riding practice.

Keep in mind thats $2000 up front. Speaking from experience you may have a few sleepless nights waiting for those 20/40 riders to eventuate (unless you have a reliable userbase) as people like to leave things to the last minute before commiting.

Also you need to consider what happens if it rains on the day and only a handful show up - it could be a very expensive day for you. Enforcing a deposit may commit some but will also turn others away.

If I were you I'd look carefully at the various other courses around first - no point taking risks when you don't need to. Organising your own should be a last resort unless you have the backing/experience/contacts and are prepared to accept the risks.
