Hi all, I just got a new pup ( pics on my profile page ) and am trying like hell to think of a name. I have looked on the net but most of it is crap. If anyone can suggest a name for my new little girl that would be sweet :) oh yeah she is a 9 week old Rottie ( of course or I would have had to change my handle :) )

Kitty or pussy. Get's them all confused. Also, train them in a foreign language, so nobody can tell them what to do, except you. Beautiful animals... :2thumbsup

2 syllable words with light vocals in them are good (dogs respond well to I, Y, etc...)

What's the names of the big ones you have (had)?..............
Since the males need a firmer hand I give them short single syllable names like "Hook"....
The Females however tend to be much easier to train so I give them 2 syllable "girly" softer names like "Stella"......
A proper name will pop up.....out of the blue

Chewy is my boy and Kushla was my girl I lost in February. I know what ya mean about short syllables, although you can get a whole heap of meaning into any name if you give it the right tone, such as CHEWY, NO BITING THE SHEEP :) not until they are dead and cooked anyway :)

Ok Duke Girl wasnt a hit so now try this 1. Call her Princess as you couldnt get anymore Girlie than that. After you have named her that then you can go out and buy her, her own Special Tiara, which will really make her look Cute.;)

ha yeah chewy would rather not have a shadow, too much of the pesky running around for his liking. Judging by the size of her front paws she will get to make quite a size. I will add that one to the maybe pile :) cheers

True princess sure is a girly name :) not sure if would fit a 50kg rottie though, or could be like calling a big guy tiny I spose :) I'm not sure I could afford all the diamonds her tiara would need to befit a lady of her standing :innocent:

Ok this has nothing to do with puppy names but I'm curious, how much does yr boy weigh?
I was at the VSG (Veterinary Specialist Group) clinic a while back and this woman was in the waiting area with her 11mth old male Rotti. He was 55kg and the size of a small horse.
Apparently she had his brother as well!
Problem is that this 'pup' had grown so abnormally fast that his bones couldn't keep up with the rest of him and his shoulders were shattered...MAJOR surgery.
His brother had normal growth so go figure...

Bummer, my 12 week girl is 9.5kg and my boy is 50kg, yep any large breed which growns too fast will get problems, you should feed them large puppy breed biscuits to slow the growth and make sure they have enough calcium and phosphorus.

Ya know that thing that people do to their babies where they blow against their tummies???
I still do that to both my dogs and they are now fully grown! They love it, makes them go all silly LOL.
Hey Rottiguy, that pup that has grown abnormally? The owner also has his brother and he is growing at the normal rate. She is doing everything right, unfortunately this one pup is just a freak! Tests have been done and they are none the wiser as to whats causing it yet...
rottiguy
25th September 2008, 12:12
yeah the old tummy blow :)
the fast growing pup is a bit odd, maybe if one of the grandparents were real big it could explain it but they usually don't get any bigger than their parents.
Might be a large production of growth hormone or something, if they tested for blood levels of it, they could give a blocker to slow growth by inhibiting it's production or uptake which would most likely help

Oh, yeah well they should be somewhat onto it, seems odd they can't slow down the growth though, oh well one more mystery in life aye :) just have to restrict feed the doggie then and hope for the best, maybe give joint support and stuff to help but sounds like a weird one
