I git it by email here's the guts of it:
At Epic events we are always on the hunt for new venues. I have often looked at the Kaingaroa Forest (The biggest pine forest in the Southern Hemisphere) and thought that it would be perfect for a good 2 day trail ride. So I approached the forest company 2 years ago to run a ride and I finally got the go ahead... So after 6 days of riding and exploring up to 100km from Taupo, I found a brilliant forest on my back door, only a few kms from Lake Taupo.
The forest is called Waimihia. It is a brand new venue for Epic Events. I chose the 20km x 20km block because it has interesting terrain, hills, not much undergrowth, some good open sections for views, plus a huge amount of old logging tracks in this forest that have become overgrown with time. Once we run the Dozer down these old tracks, they come to life and provide a chance to get into 3rd and 4th gear. There are also some great gulley sections also that are only about 20 feet deep, but they are heaps of fun to drop into and ride - sort of like a skateboard bowl.
Suzuki Pumice Blast will be held 13-14 September and takes place on SH5, the Taupo - Napier road. The event format will be based on the Berm Buster Format. Including a total of 100km of trail with a 50km and 15km trail open Saturday and a 35km trail open Sunday only.
We've called it Suzuki Pumice Blast for good reasons. 1. PUMICE because the soil type is 100% white pumice that provides predictable traction, makes good berms and can be ridden hard in wet conditions. 2. BLAST because we will keep the ride flowing to allow for good cornering speed so riders can blast out of the turns. With all this winter rain, I have to run the rides on pumice soil to be confident that the tracks will hold up to the large numbers we get at our rides.
As well as the fast sections, we will also include some more technical single track (non bull dozed) and our well known Expert Only sections to provide some challenge.
Entry will be on the day. There is no camping, but Taupo is just 15 minutes away so you are sure to find a good place to stay (maybe with a spa pool). The parking is in a paddock right next to the forest so there is heaps of room to spread out. On a fine day, there is a great view of Mount Ruapehu from the pits.
On a safety note, there were 2 riders who suffered back injuries at the last Trail Blazer ride. They were airlifted by chopper to hospital. The good news is that the injuries were not to the spine so the riders will make a full recovery. However this is a good reminder to everyone to ride safely and maybe just throttle back a bit. Low injuries make the sports a whole lot more fun for everyone.

sounds like a good plan, but not really needed, just a bit of courtesy needed i think by some of the really slow quad riders- if you've got more than a couple of bikes behind you, you're going too slow or you're not making room to pass enough
that rant only applies to quads- if theres a slow 2 wheeler in front the faster riders should be able to pass with a bit of skill

Passing quads is fun, usually involves going off the beaten track into the unknown and then diving back on route infront of them and giving them a hanful of payback roost!

Im considering doing one day, was planning on heading to Thunder on Sunday.

Had a great ride on Saturday.
Weather was a bit overcast and showery first thing bit soon cleared.
The 50 k loop had a mixture of tight single track, bulldozed track and some quite open riding in it. Fantastic 3 & 4 gear cnrs one after the other.
The short track was bulldozed with some good uphills.
Managed to get 3 of the big loops in and a couple of the short.
There was a guy quite badly injured just soon after the start of the tracks in the afternoon. Not sure what happen but the helicopter came and picked him up.
Not normally a good sign.

Yeah good ride all round aye guys - got to meet BOOOM(Gisborne)and his possy and also met Kezzafish from Wellington.
Some of the fast open stuff was a real buzz - some of it was 130-140kph material which was cool.Weather was brilliant as well. Did the 50k once- mid trail once and short trail once and also checked the novice out twice at the end of the arvo when it was nice and quiet(just to get our 45 bucksworth lol) I noticed the kids track was pretty sweet too - one of the best I've seen yet -mixture of nice jumps and cool corners. Gotta say this sport is awesome fun.Asked the St Johns crowd if they had a busy day and they said no - which is good for everyone concerned. Hope Epic Events are able to hold on to that venue for a while I say.

I heard he had a couple broken ribs and a punctured lung.
He'll survive to ride another day!
It was even before the turn off for the short/long ride.
I came off there on saturday, at about 70kmh, luckily i held on to me bike and the back just swung around on me, slow to a stop, not even hurt, but boy it gave me a fright.
I did the novice 10 or so times over the two days, with the girls etc and then did the 17,47 and then the 40 twice today. Not particularly hard at all but still good fun.

Had a great weekend down there, havn,t riden my quad since dessert dust storm, did the small loop first on sat & had a blast, then decided to do big loop, had a lot of fun ,watching Steve crashing on the slippery tree roots,Had tyre changing duties for Pauls Ktm had a cheap chinese tyre that couln,t hack the pace, thanks to Darbi,s for having a spare on hand.was feeling a wee bit stuffed after that so off too hot pools,Sunday nice & fine, decided to throw kids in deep end, said we would do 45 k middle loop, the longest loop they had ever done was 10 k,I would like to say thanks to all the two wheel guys that waved or gave the thumbs up we tryed not to hold yo up too much,My girl riding a Polaris 90 quad had a blast,my boy on a borrowed Klx110 only fell off twice for the loop,so they are hooked now,Epic certainly put on a good event.
Tryed to find Booom, must of been blind, saw the guys with the couch was parked not too far away from them.

Just to kick in my 2c worth on this ride...
We did the 50Km loop twice and the other loops once on Saturday and did the "Middle Track" on Sunday.
They were all fantastically prepared tracks that were well signposted and encouraged lots of smooth, "feet-on-the-pegs" riding with some amazing berms to power off as the day wore on.
The Epic guys should be congratulated for putting on such a well organised event. They have really raised the bar.

Hi ya,
Just getting some alarm quotes at present. Then in garage setting up prepared hair triggered shotgun and rottweiller so god help anybody if they ever get past the 240v wired up door handle and chained down bikes.!!! I'll get the bastards next time.!
Looking at getting some bikes now. Big decisions. Lots of looking on trade me and phoning around. Can't decide now if i want a motarded dirt bike, so road and trail like a ktm 525 or wr450f or go out and out like a 300exc with electric start or cheap rmz or kwaka. Not keen on the smokers or motocrossers so much, too much ooomph too quickly ha...ha...!
Girls definetly need electric and kick start as one or other always gives up........ DRZ 250s? a 85 smoker for the lad and a quad or small xr or klx 140 for the youngets girl. Anyway..... will be bloody expensive i'm sure.

I saw Gtae and Telliman out Ardmore a couple of weeks ago. Havn't seen GR8 or Gtae post fror a while though!
You sure you want to go big (525), for your bike. Not sure if the road/MX/trail dual thing would ever work properly. You'd certainly not get through some of the MR moto rides if its wet with a road based tyre on and I couldn't be bothered changing them all the time? I looked at Danger and how he goes etc. And went smaller frame with the 200cc hp. Very pleased so far with the exc. I'd pick the smaller bike over the 300 at my level. Secondly we have just sold the KX85, the little MX based, light switch, was not the type of bike for my youngest. To much oooomph to quickly as you put it. I'm looking at getting a KLX140 or Crf150 for him and my daughter to ride.
Anyway just my 2c you know your kids best. I'll try and get you out on the 200exc one day so you can test it out.
