my daughters student flat was fucken ripped off yesterday while they were at uni,

the fucken low life cunts stole her laps tops, and digi cameras much needed for her on going work , she is just 3 months away from completeing her masters degree, she has worked fucken hard for five years scrimping ,saving doing with out, working 2-3 jobs to get this far.. and now this


in the unlikely event that anyone on kb is offered cheap lap tops or digi cameras in the hamilton area, please DO NOT CONTACT THE POLICE !!

this is not ment as a dig at the Police who turned up in good time, and were very helpful and Professional..

I think they should be left to deal with other more important matters,

This is disasterous and other people with irreplaceable information on computers (desktop or laptop) should take it as a wake-up call to BACK UP NOW - get an external USB disk (they are dirt cheap - cheaper than dirt) copy everything that matters and store this disk somewhere other than right next to the laptop/desktop.

Even in non-theft situations, disks fail, houses burn or get flooded, etc

Insurance will replace the hardware but the data is gone forever.

I couldn't count the number of times I've replaced hard drives, and when asking the owner for the backups get a blank stare and "huh?" as a response

Had an idea----if computer is an online one--send an email to it innocently saying pick up so & so from a preorgainsed place---they will realise they are the only ones who know about the email---- and then set the pick up -or whatever place -with cams or people and if it is them that turn up, or the person who they onsold it too, at least you,ll have a lead. Whatever has to be picked up must sound plauseable and the thief will be conned to going to pick it up.------may work -could be dry cleaning or anything. valuable
