Accidentally changing into first gear...

Hey,
I was on my A100 today going hard (lol), and all was good. As I was coming up to an intersection I started to slow and change down. At about 40k (maybe) I accidentally got it into first gear... rear tyre gave a bit of a squeak (locked for a split-second) and the engine got a LOT of revs going. After this incident I may heard some sort of rattle, but I think it passed.

I took the bike out for a test ride and all seemed fine.. still making good power etc but then again I hadnt really listened to the engine beforehand so its hard to compare with what it sounds like now. It's 2-stroke.

Do you reckon it'll be sweet or maybe it'll die soon? Anyone done anything similar?

Yowch, that sucks man.

I don't think it'll be that bad. I do it all the time (I'm a learner, forgive me :Oops:), except at about 30km/h.

On a 100cc it may not be too good for it, because it may be geared for accelleration and not much top end, which could have meant the engine was screaming HEAPS (as you said).

Overall i can't see how it can damage the engine, unless it went from like 800rpm to 10,000 in a nick of time, now that could do some damage. Check out your chain too, I bet that took a beating too.

Compression lock of rear wheel, I used to do it on purpose on my GN turning into my driveway...LOL. Slow, speed quick turn, bit like a handbrake 180 from my yoof really :o

You should be fine, engines are designed to rev, and rear wheels will lock if you select too low a gear by mistake and let go the clutch.

i did this in my old vt250 stuffed the camchain tensioner the bike struggled in 2nd gear up a little hill sounded real bad

2 strokes will deal with that a lot better than 4's, should be fine.

As a lad I'd go from top to first on a M15 Suzi, (yup I'm getting older), at least a couple doz times before the gudgeon bore in the piton would crack like an egg.:headbang:

I had a quick look at the chain but I didn't really know what to look for... but when I spun the wheel it sort of felt a bit rough.

Anyway I'm going away for a week but when I get back I'll take it down to the bike shop and explain myself to them, get them to check it all out.
