Come along folks!! This ride will be an entry level KB ride for people who are new to the biking scene, who want help with their riding. It is free to come along to, all you need is to bring yourself to this event with all of your riding necessities.

The pace is not important however motoryway and highway riding will be involved so please make sure you and the bike are capable of these speeds. You will be given the opportunity to follow your assigned instructer to look at our lines and body positioning. We will also be following you to observe your riding and then we will let you know how you went at the next stop. Through out the day, we will be cycling through the groups to make sure all of you get the chance to ride with all of the instructers.

At the normal fuel and lunch stops, we will be happy to answer any riding related questions that you might have.

If you do not require our assistance but still would like to join this ride, then you are most welcome to!! We will only help those who want it.

Route: We will be going through the infamous SH22 from Pukekohe down to Narawahia and then back the same way. Lunch and fuel stop will be at Quasievil's residence in Hamilton, where we will have a BBQ with refreshments. Please bring some coins to donate, which will then go to Spankme for the web site running costs.

Meet up time: We will be meeting at 9:00 AM at the Papakura Autobhan.

REGISTRATION CLOSED!!

Hi, Dryballs.

(Uh... why are they dry? :spudwhat: )

Actually, that wasn't the question I intended to ask.
If you get a lot of people turning up for this, would it not be a good idea to have some other experienced riders helping with the instructions and whatnot?

Yep definitely. Volunteers??

I'll be PM'ing other road riders and racers as well.

Don't worry, I'll try my best to get this thing organised properly.

hehe, you and me both mate. Bike is in the final throes of going back on the road (I'll bet the supercorsas would heat up just nicely at this time of year!). I've got all the bits except the fuel tank which is still at reflections (hoping for the call this arvo) so at the very least I'll have it fully cleaned (nooks& crannies being done while its nekkid), fairings on and right ready to add fuel pump, tank cap and bolt it back on top for Monday. If I get the tank by tomorrow I'll be riding in to work on monday a VERY happy man! :first:

If I do have it going by Sunday, I'll defnitely come along to lend some advice and another pair of eyes. Truth be known, a slow ride would be good for me to get my self nicely settled after 4 months ( of being out of a regular ride

I won't call you dryballs, but what sort of a GEEK looks up words like 'Scientologist' in a dictionary?! GOOGLE IT, dude.

PS (without even googling it), Scientology is a 'cult religion' as formed by the late science-fiction author L. Ron Hubbard. The focus is on telling people they have really high IQ's then taking all their money...Actually, that's not quite what dianetics is all about, but close enough. There are lots of scientologists in Hollywood, including Mister Cruise and Mister Travolta. There was a high profile Florida case where some scientologists were held responsible for the death of a girl (McPherson).

PPS Hope to see you back on the road soon, CK. Keep the rubber side down this time, eh?

somehow, I'm signed up already..??!! doesn't matter, I wanted to go anyway.. Don't necessarily need it for the training, I think I've got the hang of this '2-wheel-balancing' trick goin (gonna try for one wheel soon :eek5: ) , so I'll be along to say hi, for the fun, for the sights, and hell, if anyone asks, I'll do my best to BS my way thru it.. ;)

Is anyone riding from Akl down, cos I'm sure to get lost.. I'm headin from Taka so can meet anywhere between here and there, as long as I don't get lost!! or if there's a map that anyone can stick a big X on, that'd be cool too

Heading from Takapuna??? Jump onto Esmonde Road, onto the motorway, then keep going untill you see the Papakura Off ramp (about 4 km's after the Takanini Off ramp) DONT TAKE THE PAPAKURA OFF RAMP!!! Go past it, then you will see a service area sign, its about 1.5km after the Papakura Off ramp....

This Service area has a McDonalds, Autobahn Cafe and a BP station, everyone will be congregating (sp?) around the Autobahn Cafe....

See you there :niceone:

is it the place in the centre of the map, here (http://wises.co.nz/map/default.asp?street=SOUTHERN+MWY&suburb=PAPAKURA&town=Auckland&sttype=&id=59975|2&svctype=1&mapaction=0&mapwhich=0&mapsize=2&width=512&height=512&businesses=1&brad=25&color=-1&filled=0&e=2683240&n=6455080&routemethod=0&s_id=&radius=&zoom=2&move=true&zoomin=true) ?

I'll see ya'll there, no worries

So any guesstimates on a rough total? I'm trying to convince a few friends to tag along too, and trying to get them to join in with us. Don't cater for them unless they join up, but thought it'd be a couple more to add to the fun..

With this guided ride, I was trying to target the REAL beginner riding enthusiasts. I won't cover riding in the city because that's another matter. On this day, we will work on riding through the rural/country/alpine/back roads (where the real road riding fun is!!!). Those who are already experienced bikers can of course join-in but seeing from the list of who have joined up so far, there aren't that many who are truly new to the biking scene and who probably need this guided ride the most.

The whole reason of why I am doing this is because I wana reduce the crash rate of Kiwi biker Rides, crashes that happen due to rider error. Quite honestly, it is shocking of how many bins there are. Crashes will always happen and trust me, I am guilty for crashing a few times (errrr, more than a few...) but when you are starting out new, you will be more at risk. With the right guidance, costly damages to your bike and sometimes a lot of pain and agony can be avoided.

When I started out new, I didn't really have the right guidance so I crashed way too many times. I didn't regret that because I did learn a lot from it and that's what I would call, learning it the hard way. However, all of you guys and galls don't need to go through the same thing. You can learn from my mistakes and know better.

It'll only make your riding experience more enjoyable and hopefully, safer.

So come on you newbies! Yes you with your GN125 or what ever you have. Just as long as you are a keen rider who wishes to go on proper road rides through our wonderful "back" roads in NZ, we want you to come along to this!! If it's an ego thing, then I can't help but if you are afraid or shy, DON'T BE!!! :)

You want a 1:1 ratio anyway ideally, so I dont see why you shouldnt...

This is not (as I understand it) for people who want to learn to ride fast, particularly, but for anyone who wants to learn anything about riding on the road. The ability to ride competently and safely, especially concerning lines on the road, often translates to the possibility for greater speed, but you don't have to.....

This is not (as I understand it) for people who want to learn to ride fast, particularly, but for anyone who wants to learn anything about riding on the road. The ability to ride competently and safely, especially concerning lines on the road, often translates to the possibility for greater speed, but you don't have to.....

Yep, you've got it mate! :niceone:

Motoracer
26th January 2005, 11:45
P.S. people who want to go faster particularly will also be pointed in the right direction. Though trying to go faster shouldn't really be a step that you take on it's own. It should be a goal that you work towards by working on different aspects of your riding.

When you improve your riding in general, speed will come on it's own, like PT said.

Great stuff Motoracer, we need more of these rides

I'm happy to help out, but don't think I'll be giving any advise....how about I bring some sausages down in the boot of my CBR for the BBQ...they should weigh the back tyre down nicely :2thumbsup

Come on people, suit up and bring your bike along to learn more about riding.

could do.. don't know 'how lost' I think I'm going to get (sounds stupid, huh?), but I have a feeling I won't be the only biker on the freeway going that way. Plus I think I know it (I gas up there, then back on the freeway, then the next turn off is Puke).. Coming all the way thru town and out again, I've gotta catch up with someone on the freeway at some stage.. I'm happy to meet with anyone on the way, if not just for the company.

I have written a big program and every thing and this whole ride will be organised down to the every last bit. It should all work together nicely.

I can just promise a nice safe ride from which people might learn something. The participants of this ride won't have to do anything out of the ordinary, they should just look at it is a normal ride with a pace they are comfortable with.

It will only be us instructors who will be doing the work.

P.S. After the end of today (23:59 of Thursday the 27/01/05), No more entries will accepted for the "Guided ride". It is only for the safety and convenience of everyone because I need to have it all planed out with the correct numbers in mind.

If 10 extra riders who want to be a part of the "Guided ride", turn up on the day, that'll only cause problems. If you want to be a part of the guided ride, register now by 23:59 today!

Note: If you just want to tag along for the ride and not be a part of the "Guided ride" then you don't need to register. Just turn up on the day.

Is there going to be another ride like this on the South end of the North Island?

Yup. It's called Thursday night rides and everyone's welcome.

Your more than welcome to ask advise of any of the riding gods in attendance.

We've turned a 16 year old, wobbly, inexperianced FXR150 rider into a wheelie attempting, truly skilled rider in just a couple of months.

Promise you this though, your parents will hate us.

So if I do happen to show up, then I will tag along at my own pace....

Rubbish.... No matter what sort of two wheels you ride, you will still benefit from knowing how best to take a corner, whether it is for your peace of mind, confidence when you hit something unexpected, making the most of your ground clearance, or even, if you really want, speed....

Riding the right lines is important for *anyone*, it'll make you more confident, and able to handle anything a corner throws at you. Riding techniques are similar. It doesnt matter if you are admiring the scenery or blasting along the road, more skills will make your riding much more worry free and enjoyable.....

We won't be riding on SH1 for very long at all so there should be no problems. If Motorway looks backed up right up to Bombay hills, we can skip that section of SH1 as well by going via the old GSR after taking the Puke exit.

Just Did 22 with my Bro down to Narawahia and then back with Quasi's company.

If tomorrow's anything like today, it's gunna be F-in awesome!!

Roads are all good, we won't have any road melting problems on the way down. On the way back up, if no clouds are about, it's just going to be a tad bit slippery but nothing to worry about.

After the ride, I had to work and I just came back from work. Now to finish off planning this thing (shit, there's still so much to do!!!) Oh well, no more sleep for another night it is then :p.

Thank you sAsLEX, for your concerns, but I will be on time. If I am not, free fuel, breakfast, lunch for all (even if I have to sell my race bike to pay for it!) LOL Which brings me to the next thing I wanted to bring up. Due to Quasi having other commitments, it was impossible for the lunch/BBQ to work out at his place, so now we will be buying our own food and Lunch is now back at Narawahia.

For want of a nut

For want of a nut a bolt was lost

For want of a bolt the gear lever was lost

For want of a gear lever any gear changing was lost

For want of gear changing ability the biker was lost

For want of a biker the bike was lost

For want of a bike the ride was lost

And all for the sake of a little wee nut

Anyone know where I can buy leathers with built-in air-conditioning?

It was alright as long as I kept moving...

The ride down was great fun - good pace, little traffic, no :Police:
Sorry Quasi I didn't stay for the BBQ (you were brave, with that number of people...)

Came back on my own, up SH1 to Rangiriri then across to Glen Murray and back up SH22. Was riding fairly warily because of the melting roads, but even so had a brown-pants moment just south of Pukekawa on a river of liquid tar...

Couldn't resist stopping at the roadside stall in Tuakau where I saw cherries advertised at $4.95 kg. Bought a bag, put them in my pack and by the time I arrived home they were semi-liquid. Good thing I've got a recipe for cherry liqueur.

Great to see so many familiar faces and also meet some new ones. Hope everyone enjoyed the ride as much as I did, and that there were no untoward incidents...

Big Ups to MR for organising such a good ride:first: , great weather and bikers, MAN IT WAS HUGE !!! WHAT A TURN OUT
41 Bikes I heard thats a good turn out.
I think we should do a few more training rides at some stage soon, it seemed alot of benefit was gained by the lesser experienced riders, so it was good all round.
Good times were had at the BBQ ,sorry about the cuisine but how else can ya feed 41 bikers with no organisation apart, good on the Mad Butcher for being just around the corner.
Good Effort on the fundrising, Spank walked away with $150 cash and prolly $40 in change, this is good:2thumbsup . I think all organised rides should involve passing around the Hat.
I took a few pics so here they are in now particular order.
:o Well I was trying to upload them but know worko will try later

Another great day's riding! Thanks to MR for organising the ride and Quasi for the BBQ! :2thumbsup

My mate and I came home through Gordonton, Huntly, Rangiriri and HW22. The road between Rangiriri and HW22 wasn't too soft, but there were rivers of tar on 22 just after we rejoined it. :sunny: Took it fairly carefully through there without any mishaps.

Here are a few photos of the trip down...

MR - Thanks for organising a great ride today....

Quasi - Thanks for the BBQ and drinks at your place.....

Slim - Nice to meet you as well, even thou we couldn't twist your arm to come back the way you had already ridden....lol. I thought cool there would be 3 women on the ride... but alas it wasn't to be....

Well after the ride down and BBQ, I left the group as they were heading back up SH22 and I headed back along River Rd out of Hamilton.... yep I even found my brother's home, except that he has moved..... friggin bro's .... I then headed up to the Drag racing to see a friend there as her hubby was racing.... he won in a VOLVO - so I guess that he is the 2005 champion in his class....!!!

Anyways I managed to charm my way into the place and not have to pay a cent.... and even charmed my way into the pit area as well to chat with my friend.... left there and came all the rest of the way home on SH1 and traffic wasn't a problem....

I even joined up with 2 Harley's and a Triumph on the road home........

So a fantastic day out there today and nice to meet a few more riders....
So I reckon that a few more days like this would be great...

It was a great ride down, but going back up the melting tar had me riding even more cautiously than usual. But still it was fun :)

Hey guys, thanks for the great ride, heaps of fun!

It was the first KB ride I'd found myself on and I'm looking forward to the next one.

It's pretty inspiring seeing the top guys do there stuff. Just about shat myself when MR went flying past looking like one of the guys out of the TT vid that Quasi played at his place. Thanks for setting the ride up MR and to our gracious host Quasi for having the horde over, and to everyone else on the ride too, it was great to meet you.

I also took it easy on the way back due to the melted road but still had a blast. Thanks everyone for not laughing too hard at my near spill after locking up the front end and almost taking out several expensive machines!
I think I learnt a bit and look forward ot the next ride.

Was an absolute AWESOME day!!!! Nice one MR for organising it :niceone: Cheers Bret for the BBQ, and letting me have a play on the MTB :)

My day started off with a nice relaxed pace, doing some tutoring for some guys :niceone: They were all riding very well, and really getting into the flow of things. I saw a definate improvement towards the end of my viewing :niceone:

Great to see 41 bikes there!!!! but in total with comings and goings there would have been over 45 bikes....

Great too see such a large range of bikes and riding skill, from the bloody quick MR, to the nana (me) at the back.....

Thanks for showing us the Video of IOMTT Bret :niceone: fucking awesome!!!! Can't wait to have ago!!! Looked mental as.. Hope they wouldnt mind a road block like myself there...

Trip back was very slippery, with some very molten patches of tar... The pace back was very brisk... Good riding from all :niceone:

Then had ice creams at Bombay AB...

Great day, that i enjoyed alot!!! Good to meet alot of new faces.. and hope to see more on KB rides!!!!

Glad you were able to make it Hoon :niceone:

and everyone else (Enigma, Hoon, TS, Saslex) who helped out to manage a day without incident considering how many bikes where there that is an awesome achievement. I didnt stay around for the BBQ as I had a 2 hour ride to get home and thought there may have just been a few too many of us for Brets neighbours to cope with

After today I have decided that speed isnt everything and its about getting out there and meeting new people and going new places...the more I ride the better I will get - TRUELY!. As I was having a relaxing potter and these guys were flying past I am in awe at the skill.

Thank you to the poor fella that had to give me a push up cos my short ass legs couldnt get the bike upright...now that was kinda embarrassing :sweatdrop

well a long hot day, I came back slow as due to the bike slipping around a fair bit, and when I tried to give it a bit I had the back end whip out on a tar snake! Had a good run north into ngarawahia with the guys on the bigger bikes but then the road turned to average!

Cheers to Bret for the barbie and vid!!

ps that was some shady splitting there aye ts!

pps at bombay my bike lost all electrics, there was nothing alive in the bike after backing it from the pump to infront of the store. checked fuses battery everything couldn't find fault, then TS just pushed it forward a foot or two and it was as though it never had the problem..... weird, maybe bikes dont like going back wards?

thanks to Quasie for opening his home and cooking.

And it was mighty fun trying to keep up with the 600's on the way back SH22, everything was good except the Tar.... (why did they have to put so much tar on?)

and it was great to meet you all, ppl I know and new alike. Now where is the photo of mE ? (please) :buggerd: and i am so buggered I just went home had ice cream and fell asleep for a few hours :P

JSG (just some guy),
the fact that you made it down SH22 yourself was a great training I can tell you that much, I can only remember the 1st time I went on 22 with the group and stopped to put on my helmet strap at the motorway off ramp(cause I forgot). And then after that realised they are no longer on the same road, so I tracked them down using a combination of bike tire marks and asking people working on the side of the road (only just caught the group around 3/4 of the way thru 22). Riding down SH22 on my 250 was a very good learning exicise..... it teaches you about your limits, steering, smothness, power, braking, where to look... you see your goal is to set an average speed, so say you should try keep to around 100~120k's as your average speed and then just adjust everything around it.

I suggest if you were keen on going, then you should start even earlier. like 8. it'll be bright enough, and provided there is not water from the skies the road will be dry. and it'll be cool as well. Then you can ride back same track around 11 or 12, where the road hasn't quite melted yet.

And please, watch out for corners / bumps / dips / bridges / birds / headchogs / sand / gravel / wash outs / cows / farmers / cars / trucks / ... etc :)

have a good ride. whats your cell # btw?

ok. you need to slow down to go faster. Sounds funny I know. But you won't get your line right if you hammer it thru blind.

so go slower, relax your arms / lean into the corner / look at the exit of the corner / slow in fast out / and work that counter steering. God will only help those who help themselves :)

once you find the line that works, then you can work on your speed. Till then ride at 50% of your max speed, just take it easy and swing in nicely thru corners. And remember don't tighten up into the corner too soon or apex too soon, it is not the best way or the fastest way thru the corner. and most ppl do that when they ride too fast for what they are capable of. So... slow down.

And carry some energy bars / and at lease 1/2 liter of water / drink with ya. Cause you'll get bloody hot and maybe tired.

Oh, and don't take the road to Ragland from 22. Its gravel, u won't like it.

Thanks to all those that organised the ride, the BBQ,the weather,an all the good people that showed up.
Heading down the motorway was great, watching all the bikes up front an then looking in the mirrors to see even more coming was a real buzz.
Once we hit H22 proper the pace was just right for me an the old girl, plus I had a Yamaha 900 diversion to woodduck all the way to the raglan/Nagrawhakia turn off.At one stage I was setting up for a down hill corner when I got a hell of a fright :o as Spank came past on my outside, sounded bloody prim'o but.
Once we got past the raglan turn off I decided to try keeping one every nice orange Kawasaki in view and my pace picked up quite considerably over what I had been doing.Spent most of the time in fourth gear trying to stay in the best rev range, came into one right hander and felt the whole bike slide,Pea gravel but in an out before I had time to think about it.Another down hill and she slides again, this time giving me a real fright, wet tar but not enough to make me back off, gott'a stay in view of that orange bike,Hell he probably wasn't even trying.
Watching my mirror the whole time an I see another naked bike keeping pace a corner or so back. This turned out to be Erick on his 250 Zeal, some smooth riding going on there mate:cool:
After leaving The BBQ "thanks Dude" I stopped for gas an lost the group so headed back up 22 by myself. The tar was getting a bit wet for my liking so I stopped at the pub and cooled the inner bloke for a while.
The comments about those crazy bikers coming from some of the other patrons was interesting to listen to
After leaving the pub I took it slow not going over 90kms very often but did manage to find one corner that was just flowing with tar an gave myself another heart stopper.Probably the same place MikeL spoke of.
Stopping at the tuakau bridge for a break I took my helmet off an just about fell over from the heat.So I got straight back on the bike an started to leave when a 4x4 pulled in an the driver started yelling abuse at me.Buggered if I know what he was on about as he came from the other direction from where I had.Anybody piss off a Navara driver??.
Anyway got home around 6.00,without a doubt a great start to the riding year.
Again thanks to everybody,It was a brilliant day out.

gott'a stay in view of that orange bike,Hell he probably wasn't even trying.
Actually, wasn't all easy goin! Not knowing the roads at all didn't help, so I would like to have gone a little quicker but didn't want to push anytin! I did want to toy with the R6 and R1s, but those lot know more than I about those roads.. may be next time guys..

After leaving The BBQ "thanks Dude" I stopped for gas an lost the group so headed back up 22 by myself.
Happened to me too! I was with you lot heading back and stopped at the BP to gas up. Was hoping someone stuck behind to show me the way, but no one did :crybaby: So headed up what I thought was the 22, but don't think it was (and at those speeds, I should have at least caught the slower guys :msn-wink: ), so saw a sign for State 1, thought if I didn't take that, I'd still be riding now, so jumped back on, totally gutted that I couldn't finish the ride with everyone else. Cruisin all on me tod (que Donkey from Shrek *I'm all alone... no one here to ride wiv..*), just before Meremere, a group of 8 or so cruisers pulled on, so they kinda stuck around, and I stayed with them, till they were too slow on a straight, so I nailed it once more for luck (phew, no :Police: ), then caught up with a spanky new Lotus Elise, but he didn't want to play. Shortly after, a 'prillie Millie caught up, so we played a little (unless he was trying to shake me off) till he turned off, then I just head back to pop's place for a while.. Absolutely tingling and buzzin all over.

HUGE-BIG-UP-IN-DA-MASSIV-RESPEC to the MR, Spank, Quasi and everyone else who organsied it, and big-up to those who turned-up. Really really can't wait for the next ride.. We have to beat that 41-bike record!!

I can't post the pics at the moment, but check back tomorrow lunch and I'll post the group hug, sorry, shot, and a nice panoramic pic of the bikes on the third stop..

Cheers guys!!!!!!!!

And Quasi - we have to do some more ridin! Hardly got to see if you were as good as me :msn-wink:

Well, that didn't go according to plan. LOL

I had underestimated quite a lot of things when organising this ride. Not being able to plan it out properly cause of a lot of things that happened prevously didn't help either. However I came to the conclusion that we don't really need "proper rider training day" as of such. Newbies should just come on normal KB rides more often. They should just ask lots of questions and if they want any help with their lines and things, they can ask me to help out any time if I am there on the ride.

I should have been more involved in the training day myself but due to the lack of proper planing, I had to go up front for most of the way and made sure everyone was heading towards the right direction.

Guys up front: Spank, Twosmoker, it goes without saying that they ride very well and they were doing great. The guys who I haven't seen ride before up front were Riderinblack, Arven, Bugjuice and some others. I didn't know you rode so quick RIB, well done indeed! Bugjuice, Arven had the '02 R6 and I had the '04 R6 so there was no R1. It'll be cool to see you ride that road when you know it a bit better cause you were already riding through there bloody well. I was impressed with your riding Arven. Very smooth and cool riding with a very quick pace. As I said before, it's good to see another good quick rider out there! :2thumbsup

Most of the guys were doing well at the rear end of the pack as well. It's not so much the technique that's wrong there, I guess you just need more saddle time to learn more. As I said before, do as many KB rides as you can and you'll learn shit loads!!! If I am there, you are welcome to ask me for help at anytime.

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR COMMING AND RIDING SAFELY!! It was great to meet even more new people.

Thank you F/F for letting me borrow your bike, you'r a legend!!! OK for that kindness I guess I do owe you a bit of honesty. Your R6 is a better, more fun bike than my GSXR any day on the road. On the track I have more power so I can go a bit quicker but SHIT this R6 is BLOODY GOOD FUN! So flickable, so much more usable power, so smooth... It's more like working on the GSXR where as I would just be playing on the R6 and having 100% FUN! Damn, I'll stop before I get shot by the Suzuki boys for being a traitor. LOL

Thank you to Quasi for having us at the BBQ and also helping out with the n00bs!!! Thanks to TwoSmoker, Hoon, Enigma51, Zaph and others for helping out as well!!

Highlight of the day for me was when I came across a KTM 640 tricked up Supermotard. I don't know what sort of riding back ground that dude had but shit he was quick!! I was pushing quite hard and since he didn't see me dissapear in his mirror, he upped the pace even more then I did the same and we ended up riding together right until a stop. That was an awesome battle!!! For a moment there in the begining when I could only see the motard from a distance from behind, I forgot that Motu had already turned off before to another road and I was thinking SHIT MOTU's GOING WELL!!

Sorry that you couldn't join us JustSomeGuy but there will be other chances for that in the future.

Hey bugjuice,I saw you take that side road,it was riverview rd.
If you'd turned left unstead of right at huntly you could of got back onto 22 at Waikaretu probably before the other riders got there.
That's what I thought you were doing an was kicking myself a bit for not following you.It takes you out the west side of huntly or up the west side of the river to Rangiriri where you can either turn up to Naike, GlenMurray or Pukekawa or go over the Rangiriri bridge back to Hyw 1.it cuts the distance by about half and is a good way to give your mates a suprise if your playing catch up.
We might all have to do a familiarisation tour sometime, but basicly all the side roads heading east off 22 end up at Meremere,Rangiriri, huntly or Ngarawhakia.
Where the side roads heading west go,I'm not sure but Motu would.
Cheers all.

MR the ride was a success as the newbies got see that they can come on any kb ride unless it states that its going to be fast.

Bugjuice you disappeared and I though you might have been at the front so I just kept going.

Hoon thanks for the awesome ride back it is great to sit behind you as you take the type of lines I would and I got to learn a few things from you. (Plus I was too chicken shit too go faster on the melting roads in any case)

Quasi you are a legend thanks for opening your doors to everyone.

I didn't know you rode so quick RIB, well done indeed!Felt good that day, but shit MR you were making me look like I was on a bicycle:gob: I check my mirriors fequently, but you would just come from nowhere and disappear before I had time to think about it. Someone better snap you up for their racing team (they'll regret it if they don't). At least when SM pasted me I could see him ahead for a few corners. A few of the 250 were doing well, but no match for "Roxanne" on the straight. Had fun with the goldy/brown GSXR (had "SCUD" on the tail piece I think). Don't think I saw TS pass me, but he was always in the lead group when I arrived, so so much for you below quote:Pokey: :

Great too see such a large range of bikes and riding skill, from the bloody quick MR, to the nana (me) at the back.....

Dudes, that ride just rocked!! For my first KB experience, it was way past expectations. Good to set some faces to the handles too. To the guys who helped us noobs, Moto Racer, Enigma51 and 2Smoker, thanks for you input guys. It realy helps getting feedback on what and why I'm doing right or wrong. I'm still not sure about the tyres limits of adhesion on those wide expanses of hot tar on that damn road though.

Here's hoping the next ride I go on is just as good.

P.S. Atomic, remember this face..... :eek5: (I wont be forgetting your "braking manoeuvre" for a while) :2thumbsup

Yeah lance! / (Atomic!) We don't want any more of those maneuvers again OK! You have already got in trouble like that before! Next time grip the lever smoothly and apply it gradually. Not just WHAM! Lockup... :P

I am really glad no one came off on that ride! I found a few gravel patches and molten tar rivers giving me the shits quite a few times. Glad to see everyone leaving that margin for error! and conditions!...

I'm keen on another ride this weekend if anyone’s going out PM me and I'll be there with bells* on! Although it might have to be a fast ride to get me some adrenalin pumping! (call me a junky!)

...I can only remember the 1st time I went on 22 with the group and stopped to put on my helmet strap at the motorway off ramp(cause I forgot). And then after that realised they are no longer on the same road, so I tracked them down using a combination of bike tire marks and asking people working on the side of the road (only just caught the group around 3/4 of the way thru 22)...
You wouldnt have had any problems tracking 2Smoker, just follow the pall of blue smoke we were riding through for most of the day!!!

BTW, did anyone see the carpark fire at Meremere on the way back? GSXRunner and I went through there about 1-ish and as far as I could tell it hadn't happened by then.

And where the hell are all the drag fans going to park when the new expressway goes in?? I thought it was illegal to park on a highway anyway??

I had another ride planned for myself, and had to be in Huntly around miday - but my start time was the same as this ride so I thought I would ride with the group to the Tuakau bridge...I felt like staying with the group, woulda been a cool ride, but my mind was set.

I headed out to Port Waikato and down the west coast on Te Aku coast rd,the road was shit, thick gravel and it was real hard work,I was sweating so much I kept fogging up my goggles. So it wasn't fun - but I don't rate my rides on fun only...difficulty and challenge are in my list too,so It was a good ride for me.

Back on SH22 at Dunmore, that's the road just north of where SH22 turns to Raglan, you didn't take that one.The next right north is the Pukemiro road to Huntly - I sat at the intersection to see if anyone came through, saw a blue Yamaha, but he didn't see us on the side of the road.I got to Huntly at 1.00pm,right on time.

I left Huntly about 6.30pm and took the Rotowaro road past the power station, coming out on SH22 at Naike,so I was going up SH22 at around 7.00pm,looking for stragglers or someone on the side of the road - I figured I was a little late to see anyone riding back.Lots of shiny slick looking tar,but I had no worries on it...maybe knobs grip good on that stuff,I know I never worry about soft tar.

Maybe another ride that's posted as not fast will bring out riders who aren't into the go fast bit,or a little nervous around riders who do.Not many roads I don't know from Tuakau down to Raglan,SH1 to the coast.

the shots of the day.. enjoy

I've tried to keep them close to ~100kb per shot, but the biggun at the end is about 230kbs, just thought I'd mention to those on dialup.

All these shots and a couple more are all high res, so if you like one or two, PM me and I can send you a big version, or have a photo printed out at cost for you.. Just let me know.

Other shots I took were 3 more of the initial meet, a couple more of the third stop (where we did the group hug) which was of the Duc that stopped, the 2 R6s face on, my bike (had to be done, sorry!), and one or two shot of all the bikes..

Sorry for the belated follow-up - I have been on the road since the ride...

Huge thanks to MR for organising (and remembering me well enough to name me on the group pic!)
Quasi was also suberb in guiding me for some considerable distance...

I had a blast on the run down to Piopio that morning after leaving you all at Ngaurawahia. Thanks to Quasi's pointers, really started to move around on the bike, has raised my cornering speed by about 10kms/hour and because of the lack of pick-up on the GN my cruising speed has also gone up by about the same too :) So if you hear of someone looking stupid hanging their ar$e off the side of a GN250 then that's got to be me I guess :)

Had plenty of time to practice the next week, headed off to Wellington on Monday evening, a few cruises around there, back to Waitomo on Friday (via the Wellington/Featherston road (SH2), SH4 north out of Wanganui, Fields Track through to the desert road, and then SH 32 up the west of lake Taupo and then SH30 through to Te Kuiti... some great twisties on that run :)

Leaving Waitomo Saturday arvo the bike rolled off the kick stand on some gravel on a hill whilst I closed a farm gate, broke off the clutch lever... Rode it to Ngaurawahia clutchless, to then find my battery was flat... Double the challenge to ride clutchless with no battery! Got away with only a little bit of pushing - couldn't face the motorway so stuck to the side road beside SH1 up to Auckland and got caught out on that one-lane bridge with a traffic light where you rejoin the highway, up-hill on a red light, rolled up in neutral but it stalled when I tried to drop it into first.

Managed to get it home ok but can't wait until that new bike is ordered... think this one has had enough of me throwing it around...

See you on the next ride, I hope!

wow, this is old..
This ride has long gone.. check up on upcoming rides around your way for a better idea. Ideally, that'd be the case, but it's not your fault you can't. Who ever is organising the ride should take a route into account that would mean you didn't have to go on the motorway, or warn that there will be some motorway riding. Then some can hang back with you, or just sit with the rest of the bikes at 100. You'll be fine.. and enjoy it!

Back on site after a long absence, Interesting reading all the goings on. Wonder who the dick head was today 25 April on a CB900 that gave the cops a chase H/way 16. People riding in this manner need their head read. Gives the general public an image that all bike riders fit in the one group.
