Spent some of Saturday and all Sunday at Pukekohe getting to grips with our bike in prep for the AMCC season and trying to get some decent times in.
Always seems to be the case with me that track day and practice pace best laps, seem to be 1-2 seconds off a race day pace depending on the track and i wondered if others find the same?
Need to push harder I guess and get over the mindset.....lol

I often find it the other way round. I think its because I just relax and have fun at trackdays and put too much pressure on myself come raceday

Hmmm, dunno. I haven't had many races but I'm usually in a blind panic for a few laps after muffing the start. The guys I should be racing have fucked off and I'm left battling people I should be in front of. After clearing traffic I've got about 1 whole lap to see what sort of pace I'm running on a clear track!
Sorry, I'll shut the fugg up and let you guys who know what you are doing illuminate the why's and wherefores of this conundrum.

I think I need some RED MIST to set good times. Tend to overthink a bit when theres no urgency involved.

I'm always crap! But I'm even worse during practice. I always go miles better during the race

I think Im going as fast as I can then someone faster shows me different.
Add all those fractions together and bugger me Im goin quicker.

ah, you were the blue supersport yammy were you? You certainly seemed to be doing ok round the castrol area... cut it close on entry into the S's past Jennian the one time tho :msn-wink: The superbike just wasn't quick enough for ya, we laughed a lot because it was apparent you a) were lonely, b) needed someone to play with :devil2:
least you weren't the black yammy... I hear he said a lot of bad words (understandably)

Cant practice for shit! Race day seems to go ok, when i started i would just follow guys and try match there pace but i seem to be able to ride by myself now on race day but not at track days. Mind you theres about 10 bikes a lap to pass on track days that could have something to do with it!

I find the fact that I do 80% of my riding on the road and 20% racing, I find it hard to switch off my "sinsible" mindset when im on the track.
Not going to be doing so much road riding now, so will have to see if that makes a difference.

That was indeed me on the blue R6 (28) and I couldn't believe how few modern bikes were at the track. The GSXR1000 was a mate of mine hence why i slowed down to play in the last session.
Were you marshalling?
I got the downshifts wrong on one lap into the esses and it just felt easier to shut off and stand the bike up but not really any drama.... just a shake off the head to tell myself to sharpen up and then back on it.....
Had the bike on the move a few times out onto the back straight....... but then having a treaded tyre which resembles a slick on the right hand side is not condusive to good drive.........
Never had a Dunlop race tyre that's had quite as much wear on it as the one I used on Sunday but it still managed to turn in reasonable times.

Yep, I was one of the marshals at Castrol (which should be renamed "Giss us a push mate"). You and your mate certainly got good value, with only the black r6 and a 125 offering any company. A few jokes were had across the radio about the complete lack of bikes in your session.
And you didn't win the prize for most spectacular at Castrol, that belonged to a naked Suzuki (can only imagine a bandit or gsx1400) that was fully road legal. Went much too deep into S's, onto the sand and grass, thought he was going to lose it but he managed to keep it up, then we realised he was still going a decent clip, and headed straight for us.
Hit the track in front of us, and got it back under control... :pinch: Somebody needed to change their underpants me thinks.
