Was pootling :scooter: into Hamilton this morning on Cobham Drive - taking my usual shortcut from Glenview to Hillcrest - (via Ngaruawahia, Taupiri and Gordonton....:devil2:)
Waiting for the traffic to move through the roundabout when a dude riding a BMW came alongside in the other lane. I glanced over and saw he was wearing a serious leather jacket - all the protection about the place - back, elbows, shoulders etc etc - the full catastrophe. "Wow" I thinks, "this dude is well protected".......until I looked down. The leather ran out at the waist. Trousers were corduroy......"hmmm, must have left the trou at home...." And then my gaze dropped further - to his feet......protected by open toe sandals..........with not even a pair of socks for warmth....(yeah I know - socks under sandals looks dorky).....little white toes peeping out...probably freezing as well.......
Perhaps for Random Act of Kindness day I should give this bloke one of my old pairs of shoes....? I doubt that the sandals would match the jacket for protection.........
Which brings me to the point - ATGATT.....:violin:....just looking at him made my feet hurt.......

Nah it's all good, he had sandals on.

Asphalt is a bit hot to be putting a bare foot on at the lights.

I got a phone call from Dad the other day. He lives in Australia, rides a Yamaha V-Star 1100 and he's got a TRX850 for quick blasts (and for me to steal and run out of oil).

Turns out he was riding the V-Star home after watching a friend's local rugby match; a car sort of began to pull out from a side-road on his right. In the process of trying to avoid him he hit some stones at the side of the road, arsed off, bike and him hit a steel pole, yada yada yada.

The dumbarse was only wearing a t-shirt, open face helmet, raggedy old jeans and jandals! :bugger:

He gouged up one of his arms pretty nicely, but the main damage was limited to ripping some tendons out of his shoulder and taking bone with it -- probably need operating on. The bike's probably a write-off.

That's not the first time I've heard similar stories though. I've heard many people say that around 50kph or so, the most damage you're going to do is to your top half when you topple off -- not like the open road where the bike goes sliding on your leg and foot for metres. I'll still keep wearing my boots though

I guess the BMW rider valued certain parts of his anatomy more than other parts.
